Growing your Seasonal Appreciation

Amid the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it is often hard to find the time to truly appreciate the value of food and its importance for sustenance, community and connection. This time of year, we gather with friends and family to truly reflect and express our gratitude for the food on our tables and the local food systems that helped it get there. We can hold these values high throughout the year by supporting the work that the CLFT does to protect our community's rich soil, land where food is produced, the farmers that grow our food and the markets where it is sold.

Developing an attitude of gratitude is something that must be nourished like a tiny seed.  A deeper connection and appreciation of the land, the hard work, and the farmers naturally begins to grow when we make conscious decisions in our local food system. Together, we can work to support our local food system on a daily basis by protecting farmland and the rights of farmers and farm workers or buying locally from farmers, markets or our local food co-op. Through our small actions, our greater community can reap the full bounty.

Seeds of Gratitude

Enjoy Diane Miller's story of appreciation and reflect on what seeds of gratitude you would like to grow this coming year. (Share your story of gratitude, email cflt@communityfarmlandtrust.org)

"It's been inspiring to see how our Farmland Trust has grown over the years. I look forward to the story of the next farm. Who will be the farmers? And what ownership model will make this happen? Whoever they are and whatever it is, the Farmland Trust is a gift to all of us.  I personally am not a foodie - no cooking or gardening for me. But I'm very interested in protecting open spaces and encouraging the way of life that supports small farms. I want to live in a community, among people who love the land and are willing to work hard so that we all benefit. And I'm so glad that there are opportunities to keep these creative people here in Thurston County. CFLT is doing that and I am for one grateful." -Diane Miller
