Thank you for your support and for helping South of the Sound Community Farm Land Trust preserve farmland for future generations.

Please help us continue to preserve our community’s farming heritage with a $25 gift, or an amount that fits your budget.

As we look back on the past year and plan for the future of our organization, we are grateful that with the support of our community CFLT is growing. To keep CFLT’s work focused, the board of directors created value statements that reflect our beliefs and commitments as an organization.

Because of your support, the following principles will guide our work and strengthen our community by providing opportunities to the next farm families as we work together to build a more sustainable future.

Perpetuity - We believe that sustainable farming practices support people, the local economy, soil health now and for future generations and benefits all creatures. We pledge ourselves to acquire or preserve farmland for economic and social benefits to the community.

Community - We believe in strengthening our community by working with partner organizations, farm owners and farmers to preserve our rich farmland and keep it affordable for future generations. We believe that our community wants a deeper connection to local farmers, and CFLT can help make that connection and through our common work build a more sustainable future.

Equity -- We are committed to using the Community Land Trust model to keep farmland affordable. We believe in promoting land security, affordability, and the opportunity to build farm assets for farmers, regardless of social status.

Farming -- We believe in the viability of local small-scale farms and that when farmers follow best farming practices their work benefits not only their farm family but the community. The community gains from a strong local agricultural economy and a healthier environment.

Creativity -- We are committed to using the creative and innovative Community Land Trust model for farms to keep land affordable and farmed forever. We believe the model’s innovative strategies preserve our community’s farming heritage and quality of life. We willingly take on the challenging decisions ahead of us with a creative and innovative spirit.
Your support has real results. The Oyster Bay Farm Agricultural Conservation Easement was completed in 2017 and ensures that this land will not be developed and will continue as a productive farm forever. The reduced cost allowed the next farm family, Nate and Melissa Barker, to purchase the farm and carry on the farming heritage at Oyster Bay Farm.

“I'm very interested in protecting open space and encouraging the way of life that supports small farms.  I want to live in a community, among people who love the land are willing to work hard so that we all benefit. And I’m so glad that there are opportunities to keep these creative people here in Thurston County. CFLT is doing that and I am for one grateful.”

Your $25 contribution will make a difference. One of our community members, Diane Miller, recently shared why she is inspired by our work.

Your support creates more affordable land, more stability, more opportunity, and more equity for local farmers. Your support strengthens our local economy by keeping our food dollars in the local market. Your support of local farms keeps our community more connected to farmers and gives us a deeper appreciation of the hard work that goes into putting food onto our tables.

To everyone that’s supported our work already this year or in the past, thank you for your generosity. If you can continue your support of our work, please consider donating again.

Your donations in our Give Local campaign and/or through this letter will be what sustains our work over the course of the next year. You can plant the seeds that make the difference.

Best regards,

Patrick Rofe
Executive Director

P.S. Help CFLT preserve the rich farming legacy of our community. We are grateful for your support and hope you will make a gift today of $25, or an amount that fits your budget. Thank you!
While we are still waiting on the final numbers from the Incentive Fund, we are happy to announce that so far we raised $9,600 from this campaign.  This will be matched by a proportion of the incentive fund from the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound. Give Local raised over $300,000 in our community for 75 different organizations! We will make sure to let you know the final number.

Thank to all who participated and donated to the CFLT.  WE APPRECIATE YOU!
