International Women's Day 2011 - a small group of the many who attended

International Women's Day
Thursday 8th March
10am-12.30pm

With apologies to our male readers - It's that time of year again when we celebrate the achievements of women.  Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day.  This year’s theme is health for a free Aberdeenshire event at Buchanans Bistro, Woodend Barn, Banchory which aims to bring women together to meet, share and explore complementary health, make new friends and celebrate the positive contributions they make to the North East as women.
Female Complementary Health Practitioners will be on hand to share their knowledge and skills in kinesiology, reflexology, shiatsu, reiki, aromatherapy, sekkem, clinical hypnotherapy and yoga. We also very much welcome all other complementary therapists, in these therapies and others, to come and add their knowlege to the morning.  We have a free taster Tai Chi class between cups of tea from the giant teapot, which Buchanans have kindly offered to fill for free. We also have two fabulous local singer songwriters, who will open our event with song.
For those of you around the world, who cannot join us, but would like to know more information on International Women’s Day,  it can be found here:

Aromapothecary

German Chamomile (matricaria recutita)  This herb is native to Europe. and the dried flower is used for essential oil distillation.  Often referred to as Blue Chamomile due to its colour - this is  caused by the chamazulene in this oil that is formed during distillation by steam. Chamazulene has been shown in many studies to give German Chamomile its excellent anti-inflammatory properties (along with other effective components of the oil).  It is therefore helpful for muscular aches and arthritic pains.  I have used it much in therapy and found it especially good for sciatica, arthritic conditions and in allergic conditions.     It can also be helpful in the treatment of digestive issues such as indigestion & colic as it has anti-spasmodic properties. It is gentle on skin and good for treating wounds and irritated skin.  Also for urinary problems such as cystitis. German Chamomile's scent is not entirely  pleasing in my opinion, but only a small amount is required in treatment - blend it with lavender for wounds and with  lavender and/or black pepper for inflammation, and with bergamot, juniper and/or sandalwood for urinary issues.
