Hi All and welcome, here in Scotland, most of us are back into a more settled routine (!?) after the school holidays, it has been a brilliant summer (pity on the weather). I can assure you that I have not been relaxing all hols, and have great pleasure in announcing to you first - my valued customers and friends - that we are now using the local and highly acclaimed Deeside Water from deep within our Scottish mountains in Muscle Rub and Summer Evening Balm. This is extremely exciting as I want to use the ingredients around me where possible, and this has also has the massive advantage of being scientifically proven as a water with excellent properties and so enhances the already effective products. A winning combination!
OJ's aromatherapy snippet - the power of scent
We looked at eczema last time, and I went through a personal crisis with it – which is over now. I highlighted that unhealthy stress can exacerbate many conditions and we can use the power of scent to help counteract these effects – I would like to look more closely at this over the next couple of months. Scent is the most underestimated sense we have, but can have amazing effects on our wellbeing. Test results have shown that scents we associate with good things, and scents that we like work on the limbic/emotional response part of the brain. For example if we have a much loved relation who always wears lavender then lavender will soothe and comfort, equally if we associate it with someone we have had a bad experience with, it is best to avoid it.
This is one of the main factors in aromatherapy. Inhalations are a great way to combat stress and depression. Use a couple of drops of essential oil on a tissue by your bed, or use an oil burner or diffuser during the day/evening. A great combination for evening is lavender (2 drops) , ylang ylang (1) and bergamot (2) - always remember less is more with essential oils - don't use more to enhance the effect when using oils for soothing, usually too much will have the opposite effect. Another good combo is rose (2) , roman chamomile (1), frankincense (2) - wow I love it, very calming - but only if you like these scents. You can use these blends in the bath too, if your skin is sensitive diffuse the oils in a teaspoon of milk or carrier oil (such as sunflower) and pop into the bath. for ease of use without burners or liquids, try our Heaven Scent range, simply place in a container and enjoy the essential oils effects for weeks. Pot pourri for the 21st century. More next month...
Thanks for your custom and support as always
