As promised, we are writing today to announce our decision about the future of the IA Institute.
Before we get there, we would like to thank you. The support we have received over the last 17 years has enabled the Institute to further initiatives to grow awareness of information architecture around the world. Much progress has been made.
All responses to our survey were thoughtfully considered. While there is a strong interest in saving the Institute, the resources that will be needed to do so are not abundant. The majority of responses to our survey favored that we either dissolve, reinvent, or merge with a related group.
Our decision is to dissolve the IA Institute. Our plan addresses most of the concerns raised. We will not reinvent the IA Institute, however we will ensure World IA Day and the IA Conference have the support needed to continue to thrive.
It is important to reaffirm, litigation is not the absolute cause of our decision. To blame our situation on a single reason or person would just not be accurate. There are many reasons we are faced with our decision today; the IA Institute has been struggling for a long time.
Despite our struggles, the Institute has meant a great deal to each person on our board today and has been a worthwhile volunteer effort. Although the time has come to let go of our professional board of trade, we greatly valued its existence.
While we acknowledge this is a solemn moment for the history of our profession, it is also an opportunity for positive change. It is a space now open, where new possibilities are free to flourish.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you.
