Dear Friends,

Heritage Day was celebrated nationwide on the 24th September and Stellenbosch was probably the only town in the country where all the neighboring communities came together to celebrate the day! A HUGE effort by a dedicated 2015 e’Bosch Heritage Committee created a unique opportunity for the town to experience its history and to celebrate. Boundaries were moved as Stellenbosch participated in rejoicing its heritage – every small village challenged into telling its unique story.

Imbali took up the challenge and, putting its best foot forward, gathered our friends to work together with us to make the challenge possible.

A HUGE thank you for the relentless support received from Alexis, Jeanette, Leonie and Theo of The Children’s Art Centre, Zonnebloem, for the time, energy and persistent effort they put into our Imbali Visual Literacy Project. Not only did they produce, curate and hang a superb Child Art Exhibition that launched on the 5th September in the Fredagh & Bernard Podlashuk Art Centre - they also worked with our little VLP children to paint 1,000 fondant discs meticulously baked by our friend, Dilys Marais. These were fastidiously placed on the tops of 1,000 muffins by six young chefs from Letitia Prinsloo’s Institute of Culinary Arts, embellishing the venture with their professionalism and attention to detail. They donated their time to sell muffins to support the Animal Welfare Society of Stellenbosch and assisted children who were given the opportunity to paint their own fondant and decorate their own muffin on the day. Undoubtedly this initiative was one of the highlights in the Ou Landbousaal in Stellenbosch where Imbali also exhibited some of our best framed child art pieces and also opened a Pop-Up Craft shop. We understand from the organisers that a big impact on the broader Stellenbosch community was achieved.

A massive School Choir Festival with 750 voices was staged in the Kruiskerk in Stellenbosch in which both the Kylemore High School as well as the P.C Petersen School choirs participated - our presence once more highlighted by Imbali’s donation of a thousand muffins to feed the children that participated in the choir festival. For the first time ever our delicious Magic Muffin was relished by children from ALL the schools in Stellenbosch – an accomplishment we have never touched before. We are hoping that this resourcefulness addresses the right marketing inroads into some of these schools.
Winners in the flower arranging competition - all fantastic and difficult to choose!
Marjolijn Malan, who won the “Best use of Fynbos Award” for her flower arrangement in the National Flower Arrangement Exhibition during the 2015 Cape Floral Kingdom Expo held in Bredasdorp from the 27th-30th August 2015, found time in her very busy diary to give a flower arranging workshop to ladies in the Kylemore community. Marjolijn, a world-renowned flower artist, demonstrator and winner of numerous international as well as national medals and awards, has done flower demonstrations and workshops in Scotland, France, Japan, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, Uruguay, England, Singapore, Namibia and Australia. How blessed we were to have her and her daughter-in-law, Sandra, put this workshop together for Kylemore. Everyone that participated now wants to know whether this could be an annual event! Thank you to OZ FLORA for the their superb donation of stunning fynbos for the flower demonstration.

These activities coupled with a drum majorette parade, rugby and netball matches on the sports fields in Kylemore has put the village into the Heritage Day spotlight making this ‘klein dorpie’ more than just one small dot on the landscape.
By Imbali participating in the 2015 e'Bosch Heritage Festival, we created the opportunity to address history and to decide what we should carry forward to enhance the future. One of the greatest prospects being the opening of new doors and getting to build friendships with like-minded people. Our grateful thanks to everybody that worked hard to make September one of the most memorable months ever! I think most people will agree that our creative presence was very visible throughout the month of September in Kylemore as well as in Stellenbosch.

Bless you for caring!
