Dear Friends,

2015 has been a challenging year and without your support many of our beneficiaries would not have enjoyed the nutrition, warmth and safe-care that was afforded them. We were fortunate and, looking back over the year, we managed to not only totally restore the Frank’s Heaven Crèche plus add a new veranda, but also buy new cots and bed-linen for this project. Funding was sought and found for a much needed training course for the staff and today +- 100 infants and toddlers are being cared for by Veronica Williams of Child Welfare SA Stellenbosch and her team of care-givers in safe and hygienic environs.
Our Magic Muffin project continues to sustain the well-being of hundreds of malnourished children providing them with a free fortified muffin daily together with a cup of soup. The Organic Vegetable Gardens at both the High School and Primary School provide veggies for the soup pots as well as a hands-on opportunity for children to learn food sustainability.

The Kylemore High School Library is enjoyed daily by learners seeking information for school assignments, and The Imbali Craft Studio continues to provide proactive and practical training for jobless crafters wishing to self-generate an income. It was a delight to witness 28 participants receives certificates for the training programme they attended. Included in the course was Basic Introduction to Sewing; Professional Facilitation Skills and Income Growth through Marketing.

Five recently matriculated students wrote and successfully passed the United Kingdom’s ‘City & Guild’s Course’ and received Diplomas for Basic Craft Skills of Food and Beverages Operations from the Institute of Culinary Arts in November. All five students are today in full time employment in the hospitality industry. This achievement, added to 17 of our students who are already similarly certificated, and similarly employed in the Hospitality Industry, is a terrific tribute to the diligence and professionalism of Letitia Prinsloo and her team at the ICA and all that they stand for! It has been a privilege and a pleasure working on this project together with the ICA, as well as Thomas and Steffi Curry of Lebenslinien, over these past 4 years.

Our Visual Literacy Project (VLP) continues to thrive under the guardianship and excellent tuition of Alexis Hanslo, Jeanette Fritz, Leonie Twine and Theo van der Merwe culminating with an exceptional Art Exhibition which they curated and presented in the Fredagh & Bernard Podlashuk Art and Educare Centre in Kylemore in September. Many of the children’s art pieces were also chosen for exhibit and sale in David Eiberg’s Children’s Art Gallery’ (said to be the first gallery of its kind in the world) at the Cape Town Waterfront in December. The children in the VLP project made the Christmas cards on display!

Tuesday 8th December was a glorious occasion and enjoyed by all the 120 children that participate in the VLP project and the schools’ gardening clubs as they immersed themselves in the activities offered by The Farmyard Park near Paarl. A huge picnic was laid out by Aunty Eva and the crafters so that the children could indulge in the scrumptious goodies and piles of boerewors rolls provided. Something for everybody was delivered by the park as children splashed and swam, visited farm animals, jumped on the trampoline or just lazed in the tranquil atmosphere of this miniature farm!

Bless you for your support! Without your backing none of this would have been possible! May you feel the love and joy our children have for you. Your friendship is hugely appreciated.
May we take this opportunity to wish you a splendid 2016!

Bless you for caring!
Jeanne and all at Imbali
