Dear Friends,

Echoing the words of Nelson Mandela, "Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation", we're celebrating each and every child this month.

This Youth Day we were nicely surprised by Maxzell Lerm, Duty Manager of Delaire Graff Estate, and a team of humanitarians from the estate who decided to brighten up the Frank's Heaven Crèche and Mirja Sachs Infant Day Care Centre in Kylemore. This amazing team of young philanthropists not only brought pots full of delicious lentil soup and sandwiches to the little ones but also paint pots and picked-up paint brushes to turn the setting into a child's wonderland. Nursery rhyme as well as Walt Disney characters painted on boring blank walls have magically transformed a crèche and infant care centre into a want-to-be-there place for children!
I asked Maxzell to give me a few words for our newsletter – this is what she had to say:

"It was an absolute pleasure! I don't see it as work, but merely as giving back what I can. Considering others and what amazing things they contribute to this world it might not be a lot but Youth Day for us all is a day worth rejoicing. I was delighted when I started working at Delaire Lodges and Spa seven months ago to discover our new Guest Relations team and some of the other staff members share the same thoughts and passion with regards to charity and Youth Day. We were all excited to see where we could contribute, where we can (if only one child) affect someone with a happy thought, a smile or a full tummy. The second I mentioned my plans to help brighten up the crèche everyone enthusiastically jumped on board. From our chef and his team, to our maintenance manager and his team to all the reservation and guest relations staff.

Youth Day emphasises children who in essences are our future and the leaders of our country. Some of us are mothers, fathers and we all have siblings which highlights our need to share our love for humanity and each other. It takes only a second to realize how very privileged and blessed we are when it pours with rain outside and we are all tucked warmly into our beds. Here is to positive thinking and sharing our responsibilities with each other and trying to make a difference in the world no matter how small it may seem. From the well-known Chinese Proverb: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".

Looking forward to Mandela Day on 18th July to finish the job!
