Hummingbird Garden Dedicated
A new section of Millie's Garden at the Library has been developed, and was dedicated on May 24. Created with funds donated to the Friends of the Brighton District Library in memory of Marvilyn Whitney, who passed away in January, the plot features flowers and feeders designed to attract hummingbirds, and a bench from which to watch the activity. Mrs. Whitney had a great love for flower gardening, and an affinity for hummingbirds. Her family, friends, and current and former City and County officials were on hand for the dedication.

(L) Dennis Whitney and daughter Elizabeth Taylor; (R) Joseph K. Taylor reads a poem at the dedication, with Whitney daughter Michelle Miller.

The Library thanks the Whitney Family; Piet Lindhout, Dana Foster, and Bob Herbst for selecting the Library as the location for this memorial; and Jane Reed for her work planning and directing the gardening.

Spaces at the Library: What Matters to You?

This month we would like to hear your thoughts about space at the Library. How could we improve the spaces, furnishings, or environment you use for thinking, reading, working, and meeting? Your comments will be most useful (comment form is here), but if you don't have the time for that, your responses to a couple of quick polls will be very helpful.

Please indicate how strongly you agree with these statements:

I wish the Library had more quiet work or reading space.
