A Fond Farewell to Library Trustee, Jeannette Hill
After 20 years of service on the Brighton District Library Board of Trustees, Jeannette Hill has resigned. Hill says that when she first started, the Library was a new building with empty shelves and now things have come full circle with a new millage and a new director.
After retiring, she was looking for a way to give back to the community and she chose to join the Library Board. She finds it hard to believe that twenty years have passed in the meantime. "It's been wonderful. I've met and worked with wonderful people and it's been very rewarding."
She wanted to remain on the Board through the millage and director hiring process. Now that a new Director will be arriving in August, Hill is pleased to be leaving the Library in good hands.
We wish her well and thank her for being such a stalwart champion of the Library.
David Zinn to Visit BDL
Brighton Art Guild presents their monthly program meet-up Wednesday, June 1st at 6:30pm at the Library.
Join us as we welcome Ann Arbor street artist David Zinn for a special program presentation and a first-hand view of his original artwork. You will also be welcomed by David's incredible artwork on the sidewalk by the Library entrance.
David’s temporary street art is composed entirely of chalk, charcoal and found objects, and is always improvised on location. Most of these drawings have appeared on sidewalks in Ann Arbor and elsewhere in Michigan.
The evening is presented by the Brighton Art Guild, and is open to the public at no charge.
Local Authors Showcase New Books
On Sunday, June 26, eleven local authors will gather at the Library to sign and sell their latest books. We are pleased to welcome:
Adult authors: Allyson Martinek, Monica R. Sholar, Will Swartz, Paul Kaiser, Exie Susanne Smith, D.A. Henneman, Madelyn March, Linda Grischy, and children's authors: Whitney Pytlowany, Toya Wilson, and Leslie Barrett.
Facebook Reader's Advisory Event
Join us on the Library's Facebook page June 21 between 1 and 2 pm. Give us the titles of the last three books you enjoyed and we'll tell you what to read next! Participants will be entered into a raffle for an Amazon gift card. In addition, those who let us know how we did with our recommendations will be entered into an additional raffle!

The Michigan Activity Pass program continues to grow!
MAP offers Library cardholders free or reduced-fee admission, or other discounts.
The program includes 414 cultural, historical and outdoor venues throughout the state.
This year, the program is adding seven National Park Service sites and 13 attractions. It's also revamping its website and adding a mobile component that will be offered on smartphones and iPads.
You can search the listings and print your passes at the MAP website. Enter Brighton District Library in the search form to see links for passes.
