Library Director Announces Retirement
Dr. Nancy B. Johnson has announced that she will retire at the end of this calendar year. Nancy has been Director of the Brighton District Library since 2007. As cataloger, professor, and administrator, Nancy’s career had taken her to several academic libraries throughout the United States, the faculty of Wayne State University, and the directorship of the White Lake Township Library before arriving at Brighton.
In announcing her plans to the Board of Trustees, Nancy said of her time at Brighton, “Despite the challenges posed by financial tightening, there have been many satisfactions, including improving services, maintaining a strong staff, and stewarding a well-functioning facility.”
Nancy’s dedication to the community has also led her to leadership positions in Livingston United Way and the Rotary Club of Brighton.
We are happy to have her skill and spirit for a little while longer!
Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) adds State Parks and Rec Areas
The MAP program continues to grow!
MAP offers Library cardholders free or reduced-fee admission, or other discounts, at over 100 arts and cultural institutions statewide. The big news is that MAP has entered into a new partnership with Michigan DNR, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Michigan Recreation and Parks Association that has added some 230 state parks, recreation areas, state forest campgrounds, and state historic sites to the MAP program. You can search the listings and print your passes at the MAP website. Enter Brighton District Library in the search form to see links for passes.
