Brighton District Library is pleased to join The Library Network group offering Zinio for Libraries. Please note that due to licensing restrictions, this service is available only to district residents.

Experienced, Confidential Business Counseling Available from SCORE
When John Berkaw retired as Vice President from Comerica Bank, he realized how fortunate he’d been throughout his career, and wanted to give something back to the community. Today, he volunteers his time as a SCORE counselor at the Brighton District Library.

SCORE, founded as Service Corps of Retired Executives, is a nonprofit association comprised of more than 13,500 volunteer business counselors throughout the U.S. For more than 50 years, SCORE has been dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground and grow. They provide free, confidential business advice tailored to meet the needs of any small business.

As an experienced mentor, Berkaw helps people set clear goals and objectives beforehand. He works one-on-one with entrepreneurs to devise a clear, well-developed business plan and gives them sound financial advice and marketing strategies.

"I am pleased to be working with SCORE and the Library and look forward to providing consulting services to the many small businesses in the Brighton area,” Berkaw said.

SCORE counselors are primarily retired executives with experience in many different areas and types of business. They are experts in business plan preparation, finance, management, marketing, patents, and web-based business.

According to SCORE experts, the first couple of months for any new business are critical to aspiring entrepreneurs because important decisions need to be made. Making every decision on your own doesn’t have to happen.

To learn more about SCORE services or to discuss your business ideas, call the Library at 810-229-6571 ext. 227 to set up an appointment.  Appointments are scheduled in one hour blocks, although longer sessions are available.
