Summer Reading 2014
It's been another exciting summer with over 1200 kids, teens, and adults participating in our Summer Reading programs. Summer Reading wraps up for Teens with a Final Party, Friday, August 1, from 6-8pm. Be sure to bring your invitation, (available at the Information Desk to all who have completed 4 weeks of reading).For kids, there is PartyPalooza on Wednesday, August 6 at 10:30.

Thank you also to our Junior Volunteers for your hard work.  Finally, special thanks to the Friends of the Brighton District Library, who make it possible for us to offer Summer Reading each year!

Michigan Primary elections are coming right up, with important contests in Livingston County, and a state-wide ballot proposal (Prop 1) which provides a net tax cut to businesses with manufacturing personal property, and a different source of funding for local governments.
Great Start Livingston "Summer Fun with Reading" Photo Contest
The Library is pleased to be a community partner of Great Start Livingston in its work to improve early childhood services in Livingston County. Their photo contest is accepting submissions through Aug 18. See details here.

LESA's Backpacks for Kids program provides Livingston County students whose families are experiencing financial difficulties with basic school supplies at no cost. The Library will once again be a drop-off point for donations to this program. Collection continues through August 18th. Please see the LESA website for a list of desired items.

Get Out and About!
Now that the warm weather has arrived, your library card provides opportunities for free or discounted access to recreational destinations state-wide.

MAP
The Michigan Activity Pass program has expanded for 2014 to offer Library cardholders free or reduced-fee admission, or other discounts, at more than 100 arts and cultural institutions statewide. You can search the listings and print your passes at the MAP website.

Mi Big Green Gym
You can check out a free vehicle admission for any State Park or Recreation Area from the Library through this program, a partnership between the Michigan DNR, The Michigan Recreation and Park Association, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Ask at the circulation desk!
