Advanced Biofuels USA Urged Introspection on Climate Change at Congressional Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency EXPO + Forum in Washington, D.C

Robert Kozak (left), board member and co-founder of Advanced Biofuels USA started off the biofuels panel at the Congressional Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Forum on June 12 opining that the current administration’s emphasis on an  â€œAll-of-the-Above” energy policy merely restates support of the status quo and is premised on the misconception that the solution to climate change is natural gas or other non-renewable fuels. He emphasized that the only real, effective solution on the fuel side is renewable and exhorted the audience to take another look at their priorities and activities; and to demand an Apollo-type project to reach a truly sustainable renewable future.

This year the Forum was webcast enabling more than just those who could fit into the 100-seat hearing room to watch all the Forum presentations.  They will also be available online at
http://www.eesi.org/expo2013 in a week or so.

In addition, Advanced Biofuels USA staffed an information table at the EXPO, one of five biofuels-related organizations, including Solena Fuels Corporation which recently announced a 10-year off-take agreement with British Airways from the biorefinery it expects to open in 2015 just outside of London, UK.

Shown at the EXPO with Advanced Biofuels USA executive director, Joanne Ivancic are (left) Pernille Hager, Solena's Vice President of Business Development  and (right) Dr. Robert T. Do, Solena's President and CEO.

We appreciate the opportunity provided by the U.S. Sustainable Energy Coalition in cooperation with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Caucuses to address the sometimes controversial issues regarding biofuels face-to-face with members of Congress, their staff, lobbyists, other exhibitors and interested members of the public.  READ MORE

Green Racing

Can Advanced Biofuels Help Revitalize IndyCar?

Our coverage of Green Racing continued at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix the first weekend in June.

Right now IndyCar holds the potential to be the best public showcase for how the combination of renewable fuels and up-to-the minute technology can provide the efficiency improvements needed to significantly reduce petroleum use and mitigate climate change effects.

The race cars at Detroit were fueled with E-85 and were powered by small turbocharged V-6 engines equipped with direct fuel injection. In other words, the same technology found in Chevy Ecotech, Ford Ecoboost and other production car engines.

It was great to see large groups of students of all ages come for a special education day, Thursday before the races.

Part of a new STEM initiative, IndyCar hopes to show students how science, technology, engineering and math are applied in exciting ways; to give context for their studies and to inspire them to see the importance of science in their daily lives and in their future.

Bob Kozak's coverage of the race, "Can Advanced Biofuels Help Revitalize IndyCar?" is here.

And, coming soon, watch for another article about former IndyCar champion and race team owner Bobby Rahal's thoughts about transformative developments happening now in engine technology.

Does GrandAm Have Green Racing?  Only Sunoco Can Say--And the Cat's Got Their Tongue.

One of the reasons we hold out hope for IndyCar to take on leadership in green racing is the merger of NASCAR’s sportscar racing division, GrandAm, with the American Le Mans Series, the series which brands itself as the “Leader in Green Racing”.

"GrandAm" and "Green Racing" aren’t words that you usually see in the same sentence.  For one thing, GrandAm competitors race on all-petroleum race fuel.

For another, when we tried to get confirmation that there was an exception to that rule, we ran into brick walls.

In January 2013, the reports were that the Mazda6's racing in a GrandAm class were using renewable diesel.  There were a number of articles published on that subject.  So, we wanted to report on how those experiments were going.

We found ourselves playing "Nancy Drew," trying to put together clues .  Even now, after numerous requests through many channels, no one from the official race fuel provider, Sunoco, has called to talk about what could be a very exciting green racing story.  Click here for the details.
