For Immediate Release June 23, 2013—Frederick, MD  The executive director of advanced Biofuels USA, an internationally respected nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting the understanding, development and use of advanced biofuels as an energy security, economic development, military flexibility and climate change/pollution control solution will moderate the Liquid Biofuels panel at the ACT Expo at 3:30PM on Wednesday, June 26th in Washington, D.C..
The Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo is a conference for fleet managers to learn how to reduce costs and emissions with alternative fuels and clean vehicle technologies. With the alternative fuel
conversation at the forefront of domestic policy discussion, ACT Expo is making its East Coast debut in Washington, DC, to help further expand industry awareness and adoption and to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the US Department of Energy’s innovative Clean Cities program.
Drop-in biofuels have displaced more petroleum fuels than all other alternative fuels combined. Hear from this expert panel on the latest developments, including innovative new feedstocks and second-generation biofuels, as well as updates on some of DC’s hottest policy discussions from the biodiesel tax credit, the federal farm bill (or lack thereof), to the Renewable Fuels Standard.
Joanne Ivancic, Advanced Biofuels USA co-founder, President and Executive Director, will provide a brief overview of the industry and moderate the question/answer portion of this session.
The make-up of the Liquid Biofuels session is:
MODERATOR: Joanne Ivancic, Executive Director, Advanced Biofuels
1. Jon Scharingson, Director, Sales & Marketing, Renewable Energy Group, Biodiesel’s Role as a Drop-In Performance Fuel For Your Fleet
2. Jennifer Weaver, OEM Outreach & Education Specialist, National Biodiesel Board, Biodiesel: America's Advanced Biofuel, Here and Now
3. Robin Vercruse, Vice President of Operations, Fuel Freedom Foundation, Alcohol Fuels as a Key Driver of Market Development
4. David Hitchcock, Vice President, Government Affairs, Virent, Virent: Replacing Crude Oil
5. Christopher Higby, Government Affairs, Energy and Environment, Honeywell International, Honeywell Green Diesel: The Superior Drop-in Biodiesel
"We are pleased that ACT Expo has included liquid biofuels in the program this year.  The panel is looking forward to the opportunity to answer questions from fleet managers, Washington policy leaders and from interested general public about sometimes controversial biofuels," said Ivancic.  She said her organization’s advice for fleet managers is two-fold:
1) Use the renewables currently available.
1)     Use E85, E50 or E30 with your Flex Fuel Vehicles
2)     Use vehicles warranted for B20 (and, then, USE B20!).
2)     Become an Early Adopter of Next Generation Engines and Fuels
1)     Phrase bid specifications in performance terms.
•       For example, require “Vehicles should get 85%-90% of gasoline mileage on EPA cycles when run on high ethanol mixtures (above 15%).”
