President's Message

RobertHello <<First Name>> - I hope you had a great summer!

The 2011-2012 ASHRAE Tucson Chapter season has begun and I am excited to be a part of it. We have some great lunch meeting topics set up for this year, a few events, and hopefully another tour or trip to the brewery planned. Our annual Golf Tournament this year will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Arizona National. We are also in the planning/organizing stage for a joint Product Show between ASHRAE and the local USGBC chapter, and will keep you posted on the details. To see the full list of upcoming lunch meeting topics, visit our website at www.ashraetucson.org/calendar. You can also sign up for a Sustaining Membership on the website, which will give you all 9 meeting lunches for the price of 8. If you have any questions please feel free to contact myself, Robert Kunkel at robertk@kcmech.net or Buzz Wright at buzz@kwmech.com.

A VERY Big thanks to Tom McGreal, Buzz Wright, Quinton Lamoreaux, Dave Tyrrell, Dave Palty, Jon Ziegler, Charlie Velasquez, Rebecca Tarantino, and Ray Walker for volunteering their time to the Board this year and help organize the 2011-2012 season.

Please note that we have made a couple changes for this season:

Meeting Location: Viscount Suite Hotel (4855 E. Broadway)
Meeting Dates: 2nd Wednesday of each month

Lunch Prices: $25 for members, $30 for non-members
Sustaining Membership Price: $200 (only available for members)

I think I speak for the entire chapter board in saying that we very much look forward to seeing everyone at our first meeting. Let's make this season a great one.

-Robert

Jon became an AABC certified Test and Balance Engineer in 1998. Currently he is committee chair for the AABC specifications committee, a first term board member of the Tucson ASHRAE chapter, and received the 2010 Cornerstone award for Outstanding Subcontractor of the Year. Jon and Angie have 2 sons, both still in Tucson. Jon II is a Mechanical PE for GLHN, and Zach produces & does on-air work for Citadel broadcasting (Go Cats!).

Sustaining Membership

If you are a member of ASHRAE, to help with the chapter cash flow and offer members an additional inducement to attend, we urge you to participate in the Sustaining Membership Program. Your Sustaining Membership will allow us to plan effectively and make early commitments for meeting programs. A Sustaining Membership covers all 9 of the lunch meetings for the 2011-2012 season. Sustaining Membership is only offered to members of ASHRAE.

Please use the link below and send your payment as soon as you can. We have proven in the past that participation by the members in the Sustaining Membership Program pays off in higher quality programming, better attendance and greater participation, all of which are critical to the continued success of the Tucson Chapter.

Standard 90.1-2007 as National Reference Standard

ATLANTA – Commercial and high-rise residential buildings, including federal buildings, must now meet requirements in ASHRAE/IESNA’s 2007 energy efficiency standard, under recent rulings issued by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) that finds the standard saves more energy than the 2004 version.

ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, has been established by the DOE as the commercial building reference standard for state building energy codes under the federal Energy Conservation and Production Act. As a result, states are required to certify by July 20, 2013, that they have reviewed and updated the provisions of their commercial building code regarding energy efficiency, including a demonstration that the provisions of their commercial building codes regarding energy efficiency meet or exceed 90.1-2007.
