April 2016

ASHRAE Tucson Newsletter

We're in the final stretch of the 2015-2016 season, which means our Annual Golf Tournament is coming up this FRIDAY. If you've put off registering, we are still taking last-minute signups. We have over 72 golfers already and the weather outlook is good, so don't miss it!

Our final meeting of the season is Tuesday, May 10th. We have Chuck Field from Sun Mechanical presenting "BIM from a Plumbing Perspective." For those who don't know Chuck, he is a great speaker and is extremely knowledgeable about plumbing best-practices and local code issues. He will be incorporating the topic of BIM, along with some lessons-learned, into his discussion of plumbing and piping design and implementation.

The day after our monthly meeting is our annual Product Show. RSVP ahead of time (see link below) to qualify for door prizes. Hope you can stop by on your way home from work.  We're expecting a good turnout, plus this year we have some new vendors signed up too! Right after the Product Show, please join us downtown for an ASHRAE-sponsored happy hour to close out the season.

To start planning for next year, I need to announce some board openings. First, are looking for General Board Members willing to share their input and time as we start planning next year's lunch topics and events. This is a great way to get started at the chapter level and we encourage you to inquire. If you or someone you know has a little extra time to give, we are taking names for nomination until May 1st

The other position we are looking to fill is the Chapter GGAC (Grassroots Government Advocacy Committee). Dave Palty currently serves in this role, but next season he is ascending to the Regional chair. So, we are seeking somebody to fill his shoes at the Tucson Chapter level. The GGAC's responsibility is to help educate our fellow ASHRAE members, along with local government officials, on the Society's positions, technical knowledge, products, and services. For instance, one of Dave's primary interests was keeping an eye on bills related to energy policy as they moved through the Arizona legislature, so that he could then report back to our general membership and Society to help us all make informed decisions on these issues.  If you'd like to get involved in our Chapter while making a difference in the local community, please get in touch with Dave or myself to learn more.

At the April lunch meeting, we heard a short presentation from some members of the Phoenix ASPE Chapter. Seven of them drove all the way from the Valley to meet us and tell us about an exciting event this year. In October, the annual ASPE National Conference will be held in Phoenix. Click on the flier below for more information.

Our Phoenix ASPE friends will be back in May for the Monthly Meeting. If you are a member of ASPE, they would love to touch base with you. There is talk about forming a Tucson ASPE Chapter, so if you are a member and would like to give your input, please consider coming to lunch in May.

See you on Friday at Forty-Niner Country Club! As always, let me know if there is anything we can do for you!
