Webinar: Community Water Fluoridation

In 2016, the Campaign for Dental Health commissioned a national survey of public attitudes on community water fluoridation. At about the same time, Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation undertook a comprehensive statewide survey to inform their communication strategy. In "Public Opinion & Communication Strategies from Two Community Water Fluoridation Surveys in 2016," a free webinar on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 2:30 pm ET, the Campaign for Dental Health will share a summary of national survey results before introducing the team that conducted the Colorado survey and the comprehensive approach to fluoridation messaging in the state that resulted from it. Funding Opportunity for Community Water Fluoridation

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is pleased to offer a funding opportunity for Public Water Systems to either replace aging water fluoridation equipment or implement new equipment for the fluoridation of community water. Those eligible include:
  • State or Local Government Entities;
  • Oral Health Coalitions;
  • Rural Water Associations;
  • State Affiliates of Rural Water Associations;
  • State Dental Organizations; and
  • Other organizations affiliated with public community water systems.
Funding awards will solely be for equipment purchase. With the awarded funding, Public Water Systems will receive technical assistance for equipment recommendations, coordination with other entities, and other areas as needed. An informational conference call will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 1:00pm EST to learn more about the Request for Funding Proposal (RFP) and to have a chance to ask NACCHO and CDC questions regarding the application. The conference call line information is included in the RFP. To access the RFP, visit http://www.naccho.org/programs/environmental-health, and click on “NACCHO RFP: Seeking Public Water Systems for New Project” under Featured Content. Applications are due March 1, 2017 at 11:59pm EST.

Five Medicaid-Public Health Teams selected for State Oral Health Leadership Institute

The Center for Health Care Strategies announced that five state teams (Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, and Washington, D.C.) have been chosen to participate in the first cohort of the State Oral Health Leadership Institute (SOHLI). This new institute offers a unique opportunity for state Medicaid dental program directors and state oral health program directors to jointly advance shared goals. The 12-month leadership program, made possible through the DentaQuest Foundation, will provide these teams with the necessary leadership skills and policy knowledge to improve oral health access and outcomes for low-income children and adults. As part of SOHLI, teams will develop a joint transformation project, providing an opportunity for participants to apply newly acquired skills to improve oral health services in their states.
