UnITe 2019 connects Ontario's higher education IT community

A total of 1,100  IT professionals from across Ontario gathered to network, discuss and share innovative ideas and trends at the UnITe 2019 conference, held at the University of Toronto’s (U of T) St. George campus May 1 to 3.

The conference combined three events into one: the Ontario Higher Education Information Technology (OHEIT) conference, U of T’s TechKnowFile (TKF) conference and Ryerson University Cybersecurity Day (RUCD).

New service desk to streamline requests

U of T recently kicked off the start of the Enterprise Service Centre – a new service desk solution projected to streamline more than 40,000 annual Human Resources & Equity requests and 38,000 ITS inquiries.

U of T community received malicious email in May

On May 21, members the U of T community received a malicious email that impersonated a well-known division head. The attack attempted to manipulate recipients into purchasing a large quantity of gift cards. Fortunately, the attack was thwarted by a staff member who recognized the signs of a phish.

RDP blocked due to Microsoft vulnerability

On May 14, Microsoft announced a vulnerability in its Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) component in many of its Windows operating systems. RDP is used extensively for remote access to University servers and desktop devices.
