News from Youth Rebuilding New Orleans

Wishes Granted

YRNO won two new grants in recent months.  The Starbucks Foundation will support our Free Enterprise Leadership Team for the forthcoming year.  Meanwhile, Baptist Community Ministries will provide funding for three years as we expand our REbuild program and strengthen its connection to other YRNO initiatives.  Big thanks to both!

Gambel Giveaway Winners!

With more than 600 Facebook "likes," YRNO was the winner of the Gambel Giveaway contest last month, earning us a $5,000 public relations contract with Gambel Communications. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the YRNO Nation, who should never be doubted!

Prince Promoted

Former REbuild Team Leader Prince Holmes was recently promoted to YRNO's Assistant Construction Manager.  Prince has been with us nearly three years and we're extremely proud of him.  To read Prince's story in his own words, click here

Republic Sold!

On April 30th, Patrice Wright signed the paperwork to be the new owner of our Project HOMEwork house on Republic Street. Patrice is the Executive Director of Assessment & Accountability with the Recovery School District, and we're thrilled to have her in the YRNO family!

Family Friendly

In March, YRNO was named one of the “10 best family volunteer vacations” by USA Today.  We were so honored to receive this national recognition and represent our entire state as the only Louisiana non-profit named.  It’s not just about student groups at YRNO!

Hip Hip, Hooray!

YRNO raised $2,650 by way of 65 eligible gifts on the first ever GiveNOLA Day last month, plus money from the Lagniappe Fund. Thanks to the Greater New Orleans Foundation and everyone who supported YRNO. Your generosity allowed us to exceed our goals!

New Staff Member

We're expanding!  YRNO recently hired Sam Stephens for a newly created position of Program Manager, which will allow him to wear many hats.  A St. Louis native and Tulane graduate, Sam had been a member of our board.  Learn more about him here.

Jack's Back

Our Tulane AmeriCorps VISTA Jack Styczynski recently announced he'll return for a second term at YRNO starting next month.  He's not always as goofy as he is in the picture above, just most of the time. Blame YRNO for giving him a cell phone to document it.

Nearing the Finish Line

Participants with our Free Enterprise Leadership Team are approaching completion of their 10th Street property, the first FELT project. The team's focus will now shift to selling the property and potentially generating thousands of dollars in scholarships.
