PNWJETAA October Newsletter

It's getting chilly -but nothing some hot apple cider or cider donuts won't fix! Join PNWJETAA as they celebrate the autumn season and all the colorful events it has to offer! Here are some upcoming events, jobs, and other opportunities  happening through October.
PNWJETAA on the Road! Northern Washington Remote Outreach
Saturday, October 11th - Sunday, 12th, 2019
6:30 pm -  | Bellingham Cider Company

PNWJETAA is on the road again! Last year, two representatives visited alumni in Missoula, MT. This year, Treasurer Zack Williams and President Adam Ledyard are heading to Bellingham, WA next Friday and Saturday! They will be hosting an informal JET info session with students at Western Washington University, but then they want to meet up and engage with fellow PNW JET alumni! Swing by for drinks and good company on Friday evening. No plans for Saturday yet? Zack and Adam are still in town and will be going on a hike! October Pumpkin Patch

Sunday, October 20th, 2019
10:00 am –  |  Bob's Corn & Pumpkin Farm

Bring your family and friends and meet up with fellow alumni at Bob's Corn & Pumpkin Farm! Parking and admission is FREE! Pick out the perfect pumpkins to take home for pumpkin carving or some seasonal dishes. Bob's Corn & Pumpkin Patch opens at 10:00 am but feel free to come later and stay for as little or as long as you'd like. This outing will be a great opportunity to reunite with those sweet, sweet giant orange pumpkins that are so hard to come by (and expensive!) in Japan, get a little muddy, and warm up with some delicious foods like the farm's famous cider donuts!

Seattle-Kobe Sister City Association 20th Annual Kobe Jazz Queen Contest

Monday, October 21st, 2019
7:30 pm - Concert Starts | Dimitrou's Jazz Alley

Dimitrou's Jazz Alley and the Seattle-Kobe Sister City Association (SKSCA), the Kobe Trade Information Office, and Shinkaichi Music Street is pleased to present Kobe-Japan's 2019 Vocal Jazz Queen, Yukino! Band members supporting Yukino are Randy Halberstadt (piano), Mark Ivester (drums) and Jeff Johnson (bass). Doors open at 6:00 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale for $15.00/person. Tickets may be purchased online or by phone. Night of show seating typically available.

Bunka no Hi | Japanese Culture Day Festival

11:00 am - 4:00 pm | The Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington

The Bunka no Hi (Japanese Culture Day) Festival is a FREE family-friendly annual event celebrating Japanese and Japanese American cutlure. This year, Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) will proudly present 2 exhibits, one exhibit of numerous and unique good luck symbols of Japan, and another exhibit of now and then photos of the Minidoka Internment Camp. The event will also include martial arts demonstrations, tea ceremony, taiko, story-telling, craft making, food vendors, and more!
Transitions: Opportunities Forum & Networking Expo
Saturday, November 9th, 2019
9:00 am - 3:00 pm | Northwest University

Transitions: Opportunities Forum & Networking Expo is a FREE annual career and networking event organized and delivered by the PNWJETAA, co-sponsored by Northwest University, and The Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR). This comprehensive event is designed to meet the ever-changing needs of the community while connecting alumni with new opportunities. This event is open to anyone who wishes to attend, so please feel free to bring a friend interested in learning more about the JET Program. Morning sessions include guest speakers and resume reviews, followed by the Networking Expo during which attendees may interact and connect with exhibitors. Registration is now open!

The Hyogo Business & Cultural Center is now accepting applications for their Assistant Director position! The ideal candidate would be a CIR or someone with similar skills. Visit our Job Page for full details.

Don't forget! You can get partial reimbursement for professional development!  Most Japan-America Society and JASNET events qualify. If you find another event, you can submit it through the website for approval as well. For details, you can read more about it on the website.
