Smithsonian Seeks Interns For Goldman Sachs Junior Fellowship Program
Deadline Today!

The Smithsonian is looking for students to fill slots for six paid summer internships, with learning opportunities ranging from developing a program as part of a series on Afro-Latinos in the United States to gaining experience in cataloging projects, to participating in the development of a new exhibition, "American Enterprise."

This program is part of the Goldman Sachs Multicultural Junior Fellows, which is targeted towards minorities in the U.S.

Students must be enrolled in a higher education institution. Recent graduates may apply if their graduation date is not earlier than Dec. 1, 2012.

  • Undergrad Summer Institute in Washington D.C.

    Centro will sponsor two college students at the Summer Institute for Latino Public Policy (SILPP), an educational program for undergraduates and those who graduated no earlier than December 1, 2012. Applicants must be enrolled in the Inter-University Program for Latino Research’s (IUPLR) member institutions, which includes Hunter College.

    This program, part of the Goldman Sachs Multicultural Junior Fellows and targeted towards minorities in the U.S., is an intense week of training and orientation to public policy and legislative processes through a series of seminars, workshops, site visits to national organizations and meetings with congressional representatives.

    The summer program will be held at The University of California Washington Center in Washington, D.C. on June 16-21, 2013 Application deadline is April 15, 2013.

  • The Frank Bonilla Fellowship

    The Frank Bonilla Fellowship Fund supports the advancement of the field of Puerto Rican Studies in honor of his legacy. The purpose of the fund is to identify and select undergraduate students who express a strong interest in Puerto Rican Studies and to support their research in this field. Frank Bonilla Fellows receive a $500 stipend.

  • Professional Research and Archive Staff

    Centro has two positions available for research associates to conduct academic research in connection with CUNY programs. A PhD is required.

    There are also two positions available for research assistants (econometrics specialist) to provide research and organizational support to Centro’s director. Research projects will focus on the study and interpretation of the social conditions of the Puerto Rican community in the United States.

    Research Fellowship

    Centro will make awards, depending on funding availability, in any or all of the following categories: Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellows to assist PhD candidates complete research and write their dissertations; Post-Doctoral Fellows to support scholars who have recently completed their doctoral studies develop a defined scholarly agenda leading to publications; and Visiting Faculty Fellows (open to CUNY faculty only) to provide junior faculty members course release time to further develop a defined scholarly agenda leading to publication.

  • The Socio-Economic Conditions of
    Puerto Ricans in Florida, 2010

    Puerto Ricans had significantly lower incomes than the Florida population as a whole, according to Centro’s Data Center, which has released a new data sheet on the socio-economic conditions of Puerto Ricans. It is based on statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2010.
