  • Decorated Puerto Rican World War II Soldier From 65th Infantry Joins Archives Collection

    At a recent event held at Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work, Centro commemorated Puerto Rican soldiers of the 65th Infantry, known as The Borinqueneers; among those honored was Jesus Pedrosa, whose daughter was on hand to receive the honor. Mr. Pedrosa was a sergeant during World War II who fought alongside a predominantly Puerto Rican regiment, earning accolades, including the prestigious Bronze Star for his courageous work and leadership.

    Of Soy Gilberto Gerena Valentín: memorias de un puertorriqueño en Nueva York

    From Centro to Centro, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College is kicking off its tour of the new book Soy Gilberto Gerena Valentín: memorias de un puertorriqueño en Nueva York at el Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

    Centro Publications released its new book authored by Gilberto Gerena Valentín and edited by Carlos Rodríguez Fraticelli earlier this spring. Both Gerena Valentín and Rodríguez Fraticelli are expected to attend a book-tour event on Thursday, May 23, at el Centro de Estudios Avanzados, Calle Cristo 52.
