  • Spanish eBook of Gerena Valentín Memoir
    Now Available at Centro Store

With so few platforms marketing eBooks in Spanish, Centro has made the Spanish-language version of Soy Gilberto Gerena Valentín: memorias de un puertorriqueño en Nueva York available through the Centro Store.

“The Centro store is now offering the Spanish language e-version of this book. This is the first eBook that we feature in the Centro store. We’ll soon have most of our titles available as eBooks through the store” said Noraliz Ruiz-Caraballo, the coordinator of Centro Publications. “Gerena Valentín’s memoir is such an important contribution to the story of our emigration that we wanted to make sure it was readily available to those who preferred the Spanish version.” Centro published the book, written in Spanish by Gerena Valentín and edited by Carlos Rodríguez Fraticelli, in both English and Spanish.

  • Pura Belpré Lives
    At La Casa Azul

Aurora Anaya Cerda remembers watching an East Harlem screening of Centro’s documentary Pura Belpré: Storyteller and being "captivated" by the tale of the life of this legendary storyteller, pioneer Latina librarian and author of folktales for children.

As Anaya Cerda worked on her dream of opening a brick-and-mortar bookstore in East Harlem in 2012, she knew Belpré would have a special place at La Casa Azul Bookstore. That is why La Casa Azul has a special section dedicated to Belpré and to the writers and illustrators who have won the prestigious Pura Belpré Award. And that is why last year the bookstore held its first festival in her honor. But this year they wanted to do something bigger: a three-day festival, for which they partnered with Centro.

  • Centro's New Educational Tool
    Highlights Puerto Rican Heritage

Centro’s new Puerto Rican Heritage Poster Series is a collection of five large posters that provide a brief historical chronology of Puerto Ricans in the United States and three posters that are historical and demographic maps that pictorially reflect Puerto Rican migration. As part of Centro’s Traveling Exhibits program, the posters are available to educational and not-for-profit organizations. The posters are also available for sale to the general public.

This rich heritage series is designed to provide an attractive visual educational tool for teachers and others to use in classrooms or other public spaces, and to introduce students to and interest them in this significant piece of Puerto Rican and American history.
