  • A Theatrical Night with Pura Belpré:
    Walking Outside the Book

With a suitcase full of colorful puppets and props, bilingual actress, storyteller, singer/songwriter and puppeteer Flor Bromley performed one of her favorite theater roles: Pura Belpré, the storyteller and performer.

“It touches my heart to play Belpré and to share her stories; I feel like a kindred spirit,” said Bromley at the March 27 Pura Belpré: Walking Outside the Book event, sponsored by Centro and SEA (Society of the Educational Arts, Inc.).

    And Its Leader Alicia Ramírez

Centro congratulates the Hispanic Office for Local Assistance (HOLA) of Orlando, Florida, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary serving the Puerto Ricans of this fast-growing community.

HOLA has provided valuable information and referral services to hundreds of residents and families in its multicultural community, connecting them with government and community organizations to find jobs, housing, healthcare services, educational opportunities and many other resources. And for 8 of its 10 years, this vital organization has been led by Alicia Ramírez, one of Centro’s 100 Puerto Ricans Preserving Our History.

  • Centro's New Educational Tool
    Highlights Puerto Rican Heritage

Centro’s new Puerto Rican Heritage Poster Series is a collection of five large posters that provide a brief historical chronology of Puerto Ricans in the United States and three posters that are historical and demographic maps that pictorially reflect Puerto Rican migration. As part of Centro’s Traveling Exhibits program, the posters are available to educational and not-for-profit organizations. The posters are also available for sale to the general public.

This rich heritage series is designed to provide an attractive visual educational tool for teachers and others to use in classrooms or other public spaces, and to introduce students to and interest them in this significant piece of Puerto Rican and American history.
