Celebrating the Spirit of a Puerto Rican Warrior Yolanda Sánchez
Yolanda Sánchez’s favorite quote was “Yo soy la vida, la fuerza, la mujer” (“I am life, strength, woman”) by Puerto Rican poet Julia de Burgos. In many ways, this community activist lived this quote in all aspects of her life, judging from the statements from family members, colleagues, community leaders, scholars, and elected officials expressed at a memorial for Yolanda Sánchez, a trailblazer in the world of social work and a leader in the Puerto Rican community. She died on June 11, 2012 at Metropolitan Hospital.
