We recently teamed with the University of Aberdeen to carry out visual aerial surveys of cetaceans in the Moray Firth to better understand their distribution in this very important SAC. Highlights were sightings of up to six species in a day, including a mixed pod of Risso's Dolphins with a calf and White-beaked Dolphins, plus Harbour Porpoises, Bottlenose and Common Dolphins and Minke Whale. Click here for a video of dolphins in the Firth.

In October, our ecologists and hydrologists headed to Hubei Province, China to carry out surveys and develop a management plan for the Shishou Milu National Nature Reserve. This work assesses the feasibility for wetland restoration and establishes baseline data. Home to over 600 Père David’s deer (Milu), the reserve faces many challenges. In the next 8 months we will deliver a management plan for restoration of wetlands, community engagement, assessment of how livelihoods can be supported and raising public awareness.  To learn more click here.

A local equine veterinary clinic commissioned us to design a wetland treatment system to handle wastewater from its new premises. The effluent, which includes surgical disinfectants, is difficult to treat under a normal septic tank arrangement and will be dealt with via tailored wetland treatment beds. Stormwater attenuation, wetland habitat provision and an environmental management document, guiding site managers on maintainance and operation have also been incorporated.
