2020 was a challenging year for all of us. Our lives, societies and economies changed drastically. ETTG would like to start the new year by sending you our warmest wishes for a bright new year.

We look towards contributing to a more sustainable future together.

Kind regards,

Challenges for the development-security nexus
in EU foreign policy

The development-security nexus has become a central concept for the European Union (EU) and other international actors. Key EU documents recognise the importance of the link between these two main domains of EU external affairs. This is part of a wider framework of the so-called triple nexus between humanitarian aid, development and security, which the European Commission aims to enhance to better respond to protracted crises.

ETTG/ECDPM MFF online workshop event
“Programming the NDICI in a post-Covid era”

The main objective of the event was to take stock of the progress made with regard to the negotiations of the NDICI instrument and outstanding issues to be solved, as well as to discuss key principles for the programming for the period 2021-2027. This event fostered an open discussion between representatives of the EU institutions, think tanks and civil society organisations.

EU-West Africa cooperation on One Health: learning from COVID-19 to build a stronger partnership

The German Development Institute (DIE), the Africa Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET) and the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) have joined forces to organise a series of dialogues (on digitalisation, trade, investment, climate) between thinkers and stakeholders from Africa and Europe in an effort to inform the AU-EU summit, with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In that context, our members DIE and ECDPM co-organised the closed door webinar event.

In the following days, an ETTG Blog based on that event will be published in our website. Stay tuned!

The Nordic contributions to EU-Africa cooperation in times of threatened multilateralism were discussed during a virtual roundtable with thought-leaders from Africa and the Nordic Countries examining the potential and value of a Nordic contribution to the EU-Africa relationship. Our Director Geert Laporte was one of the participants in this dynamic discussion.

If you missed the virtual event, here you can see the full video of the conference.
