SWE-RMS is excited to be in the full swing of summer after an eventful spring. The Spring Summit was a resounding success. After a virtual event last year, it was wonderful for attendees to finally meet in person again and visit with old friends and make new connections. The theme of the Spring Summit was Golden Shadow, Hidden Potential. Our keynote speaker was author and founder of Bossed Up, an award winning professional and personal development company, Emilie Aries. She gave a inspiring talk about beating burnout and how to understand and navigate the science of stress. Attendees were then able to attend a variety of sessions on topics including financial planning, harnessing transferrable skills and leveraging your SWE networks. After a catered networking lunch, there were lightning talks on pursuing education during your career and navigating a mental health leave from work, a panel discussion from our keynote sponsor Merrick about volunteering to build you brand, and a talk about tips for interviewing from the perspective of a hiring manager. We closed the day from Dr. Kate Youmans from Colorado School of Mines, who spoke about the power of empathy within your engineering career. We are very grateful to our sponsors Merrick, Keysight Technologies, Ulteig, Medtronic, Mckinstry, and Bomsaerah Seog and the Schultze family for helping make this event a success.
In May, we hosted our most popular outreach event GESTEM at the Auraria Campus. 640 seventh grade girls from 25 area schools. Our goals for this event was to invite young women to gain exposure to STEM and teach them technical skills and teamwork that would benefit them in a STEM career. With the help of our sponsors and our volunteers, we hosted a variety of interactive activities to introduce attendees to STEM. Check out our metrics and photos from the 2022 event!
