What’s Next with the new BC New Democrat Government?
We made history in BC’s Legislature this past month and I am so honoured to have been a part of it. This is a very exciting time with a new BCNDP government on its way! Many are asking me, "what's next?" The formal transition from the BC Liberals to the BC New Democrats takes place over the next two weeks. This involves hiring senior staff like Premier-designate Horgan's new Chief of Staff, Geoff Meggs, and resetting priorities for ministries. Our new Premier will also be making decisions about who will take on which responsibilities, whether Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries or Committee Chairs. When those decisions are made, it will be announced to the public and we will have a wonderful swearing-in ceremony. Until then, enjoy the beautiful summer and political punditry.
Balfour Ferry 70th Jubilee
The rain deterred no one from celebrating 70 years of the Balfour Ferry Landing! We almost didn't get this celebration after last summer’s proposal to move the landing. But the Kootenays spoke out to keep the ferry in Balfour and we won, making this day so very sweet.
Victoria Day Weekend
It was a beautiful day at Creston’s Blossom Festival, Farmers Market and Yaqan Nukiy PowWow. I was joined by newly elected New Democrat MLA Bowinn Ma, and as I do with all my colleagues when in Salmo, we stopped for a photo with the World's Largest Penny. Later in the weekend I joined the festivities in Kaslo for the May Days Parade and celebration afterwards at Vimy Park.

Creston-Kootenay Foundation Gala
What a lovely event in Creston to raise money for the Nicole Nilsson Hospital Fund benefiting the Creston-Kootenay Foundation. It was great to see so many friendly faces, and especially to catch up with former RDCK Director, John Kettle. We were both elected to local government in 2002; he to Area B and me to Nelson City Council and we’ve been friends ever since.

I want to hear from you!
