The Tin Can API is the new e-learning standard, providing access to data from all learning experiences. It integrates data from disparate sources, giving companies a broader picture of learners than if they simply looked at the information available in a learning management system. Welcome to the last article in our learning and development technology trends series. This issue’s topic is the Tin Can API.

Think of it as the modernization for the SCORM. And it’s changing the way we gather and analyze learning data. We asked the respondents of our technology trends survey how they would characterize their organization’s adoption of the Tin Can API; 35 percent hadn’t even heard of it. And only 17 percent are considering implementation and plan to further explore this year.
