Gaudete (Joy)

PHILIPPIANS 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

From sermon4kids.com: “Sharing with others — that’s the spirit — the spirit of Christmas. Let’s all show the true spirit of Christmas this year!”

Newsletter will be on Christmas break starting with the 22nd of December through New Year's Day. Enjoy your holiday.

Wednesday Evening Healing Service

The Almighty Lord, who is a strong tower to all who put their trust in him, to whom all things in heaven, on earth, and under the earth bow and obey:  Be now and evermore your defense and make you know and feel that the only Name under heaven given for health and salvation ins the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen.  (Book of Common Prayer, p. 456)

The act of healing through the laying on of hands has been a part of the church’s ministry from the earliest days. Scripture tells us that Jesus touched those who came to him seeking healing in their lives.  He saw beyond the immediate physical needs of those who came to him, making those whom he touched whole in all aspects of their lives so that they might glorify and serve God.  The healing of body, mind, and spirit is God’s work of love among all people and so we bring the broken parts of our lives to God, prayerfully seeking God’s healing.  In this sacrament, holy oil is used as a sign and means of healing.

Starting on December 5th at 6pm, St. Simon & St. Jude will begin offering an evening healing service every month on the first Wednesday.  Prayers, anointing, and laying-on-of-hands will be offered for all who desire it, either for themselves or on behalf of another person.  The sacrament of healing will be followed by Holy Eucharist.  The whole service will last about 30-45 minutes.

Greening of the church will be on Sunday

. . . December 23 following the 10:30 service. This will be a family affair in which the children can help hang ornaments on the tree, or listen to Christmas stories and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate (adults can enjoy cookies & hot chocolate too).

The parish Christmas drop in

. . . will be held at Fr. Mark and Rindy's home (104 Woodcock Trail, West Columbia SC 29169) on Friday, December 28 from 5-8 p.m. Please bring a heavy hors d'oeuvres to share.

Please mark your calendars for these important events and we look forward to seeing you there!

Christmas Eve Services

There will be two services on Christmas Eve, one at 5:30 and one at 10:30 p.m.

The early service focuses on young people—youth read the lessons and narrate the service. Young ones wear costumes and re-enact the Christmas story. ALL YOUNG ONES ATTENDING ARE IN THE CHRISTMAS STORY.

The late service is an abbreviated Lessons and Carols with lots of Christmas carols to sing and listen to.
