Under His wings

LUKE 13:31-35

. . . He [Jesus] said to them, “. . . Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'”

sermons4kids: “Jesus still loves his children today. He still wants to gather them in his arms and protect them and care for them. Sometimes, we stray away, but Jesus still loves us just the same. That’s the kind of love he has for you and me.”

THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2019: The Abdelnour grandchildren (dare I say "our grandchildren") will be baptized. Come share the glorious day with Fr. Mark & Rindy; Sarah, Pan, & Ellis; and Kate, Ryan, Emerson, and Brooklyn!

Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras)

King is Byron Ames; Queen is tie Rosalind Funk & Emily Sitnik. Champions are men's Club and Fellowship for a festive and delicious night.

More Beauty!

March 18-23 we will strip and wax sanctuary, sacristy and other areas that need stripping and waxing in the main building. After the Sunday (3/17) Service we will need help moving the furniture and chairs. All help is appreciated. Ronnie. [Many hands make the task easier.]

The Library is Open!

With Lent just beginning, we are happy to announce the SSSJ Library is now open and ready for you to come in and take a look around. You might find just the right book to read during this Lenten season.
Books are arranged by categories and alphabetical order within each category. Once you find the book for you, simply take it home and enjoy! If you find you liked the book, sign the paper in the front of the book. You might be able to share thoughts with someone else who liked it.
There are commentaries for those who want to learn more about the Bible as well as books to help you grow as a Christian. There are books for children as well as adults and priests as well as lay people. There is something there for just about everybody. There are a few videos in the last tall cabinet by the closet if you would rather watch something instead of reading a book.
When you are finished reading with your selection, simply bring it back and put it on the shelf that says, “Return Books Here”. This shelf is located just inside the library by the door.
At this point, some of our shelves are full to overflowing. Please do not donate boxes of books you no longer want. Since this is a church library, we have limited our collection to religious books. The public library can be of help to you if you want more popular fiction and nonfiction books. Enjoy!block. Use a contrasting background to draw attention to this content.
[Many thanks to Carol Neuburger for getting this done.]

Did somebody say GEMS?

Yes, indeed, they did. GEMS (fellowship for adults) will be March 22. Hosts for the evening will be Nancy & Rich Alston and Virginia & Jim Burton. Let them know you're coming or you may have to stand outside the door! [Now you know that Nancy and Virginia won't make you stand outside.] You bring food to share; hosts will make sure you have a seat. Oh, yes, there will be a band.

2019 SSSJ General Operating Fund Actual Compared to Statement of Mission

Item    Actual     Statement of
Difference Last Year
Total Offerings $35,663 $39,171 ($3,508) $39,224
Total Expenditures $41,720 $41,422 ($298) $43,212
     Surplus (Deficit)    ($6,057) ($2,251) ($3,806) ($3,988)

Through Sunday, February 25, we are running unfavorable to our 2019 Statement of Mission (SOM) which is the budget for our general operations.
Total Offerings include Sunday offerings like Pledges, Plate, and Non-Pledged giving, plus any other giving such as Building Usage offerings (from users of Field Building). Our Offerings are $(3,508) because  we are running behind on Pledged offerings. Our budget relies on your pledges, and we can’t afford much slippage . . . so, please catch-up if you are behind.
Total Expenditures include all the expenses to operate the church including Compensation, Programs (like Christian Education, Worship, Fellowship, etc.),  Building and Grounds Maintenance including Custodial, Utilities and Administration.  We are tracking pretty close to the SOM budget.
Please let Jim Dent know if you have any questions.   He can be reached at 847-219-9087 cell or
