WISDOM OF SOLOMON 3:1-9

The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,
and no torment will ever touch them. . . .
because God tested them and found them worthy of himself;
like gold in the furnace he tried them,
. . . They will govern nations and rule over peoples,
and the Lord will reign over them forever.
Those who trust in him will understand truth,
and the faithful will abide with him in love,
because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones,
and he watches over his elect.

From sermon4kids.com: “If we could just keep those two commandments [love God; love your neighbor], we wouldn’t have any trouble keeping the rest of them, would we? Let’s go to the Father and ask him to help us.”

STEWARDSHIP PLEDGES ARE DUE ON SUNDAY, THE FOURTH!

Did somebody say cookies?

Kairos is an ecumenical Christian ministry designed for use in men’s and women’s correctional institutions. The ministry is conducted, in cooperation with chaplains of correctional institutions, by teams of laity and clergy who are qualified by their experiences in Christian renewal movements. The purpose of Kairos is to help build and nurture strong Christian communities among the residents of correctional institutions.
The Kairos experience for residents starts with a 3-day short course in Christianity. This weekend involves inmates selected by the Chaplain and a large team of lay and clergy persons. The weekend is modeled after renewal weekends like Cursillo, Emmaus Walk and Via De Christo. After a Kairos weekend, residents continue their faith walk by participating in small Prayer and Share Groups.
One of the ways the love of Christ is demonstrated is through the Cookie Ministry, where bags of cookies are distributed to ALL participants, prisoners and guards during the 3-day weekend.  The typical Kairos weekend requires thousands of cookies.
If you would like to support this important ministry, please consider donating cookies (either homemade or store-bought).  Please wrap your cookies in baggies, 12 to a bag, and bring them to the parish kitchen by 1 pm on Wednesday, November 7th.
     Many thanks

Two things for November

First, a diocesan-wide event: Let's make Thanksgiving a real thanksgiving by participating in the United Thank Offering challenge. Each week will be a somewhat different focus. We will present that information in our weekly newsletter. All will begin on November 1, with daily reminders of how we may be thankful. So, every day in November, there will be a post on our Facebook Group page so be sure to be a member (go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/ecsssj/). This will culminate on Thanksgiving day. And there are crafts for young ones so keep eyes peeled.

Second, November 1 is All Saints Day (which we will celebrate at worship on November 4th. Just to remind you of who the saints are, here's a daily calendar (https://sites.google.com/site/sssjallsaints/)for November 2018. There will be a daily post to the Facebook Group page to acquaint you with the saints included in our special litany.

The purpose is, of course, to enrich your journey. Feel free to comment on the Facebook Group page.
[apologies for omitting last week]

3rd quarter contribution statements
