October 12, 2018

It has been my hope for some time that, given our deep involvement in the community and the fact that we work so hard during the month of October, selling pumpkins and raising money for outreach, we might create more of a celebration around the feast day of our patron saints, Simon and Jude.  My hope has been that we could invite the community to join us for a 3-day festival at the end of each October which celebrates our common life and focuses us on mission and outreach in and around our community.  This was the idea behind our SSSJ Parish Weekend event, planned for October 26-28.

Unfortunately, in spite of our best intentions and efforts by several dedicated people, things just didn't come together as we had hoped.  Our musicians were double-booked and our planning team simply did not have enough time to prepare a meaningful program this year.  For this reason, we have canceled the Parish Weekend and it's related activities.

I still believe that St. Simon & St. Jude can and should build our presence in the Irmo community.  We are a small church with a big heart, and we have a lot to offer our friends and neighbors.  And I look forward to trying again next year to tell our unique story to the rest of the community in our own creative way.
