I am saddened to report to you that one of our members was attacked at the church yesterday afternoon.  Ronnie Johnson was working on the grounds Sunday afternoon when he was approached by a man who asked to use the bathroom.  After Ronnie unlocked the Field building, the man threatened him with a knife, knocked him down and tied his hands and feet.  He then stole Ronnie's wallet, keys and cell phone.

By the grace of God, Ronnie was not physically harmed.  He reported the incident to the police, who responded quickly and are conducting an investigation.  In addition, we are taking the immediate precaution of changing the locks on the sanctuary building, the Field building and the garage.  Further security measures, such as security cameras, additional lighting, panic alarms, etc. will be considered by the vestry.  If you have any specific suggestions or concerns about security at the church, please contact a member of the vestry or myself.

Jesus told his disciples to be "as wise as serpents and gentle as doves."  One of the main ways we minister to the community of Irmo is by being an open and safe place for hundreds of people every week.  With your support, I believe we can do this safely and wisely.
