For all the saints . . .

It's almost time. On November 4th, at 10:30 am worship, we will celebrate All Saints. During our litany of saints, we'd like to include your special saints, that is, those people who are saints to you, those who have gone to greater life. Please submit any (all) names you wish to be read aloud to and the name will be included. It is important that you include how you pronounce the name.

Drink of my cup

MARK 10:35-45

“. . . James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to Jesus and said to him, ‘Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.’ And he said to them, ‘What is it you want me to do for you?’ And they said to him, ‘Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.’ But Jesus said to them, ‘You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?’ They replied, ‘We are able.’ Then Jesus said to them, ‘The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.’ . . .”

From “Sometimes you and I may say, “I wish I could be more like Jesus.” Is that really our wish? If we really want that wish to come true, we must give our lives in service to others.”

SOCKS . . . socks . . . sox

Eventually  the weather will turn and the temperature will get a little cooler and then cold. Funny how that happens. When it does, a clean, warm pair of socks will be appreciated by a lot of people. We at SSSJ are determined to make that happen. The effort to collect socks (white full length crew socks) is already underway. We will distribute these socks on Saturday, November 3. As of last Sunday we had accumulated 50 pair of socks. Thank you very much. That puts us about halfway to our goal. Please help. An anonymous shopper noticed that Target on Harbison has a 10-pair pack of socks for $7.99. Walmart has a 10-pair pack of socks for $7.48 and TJ Maxx has a 10-pair pack of Gildan socks for $4.50. Please help. When you leave your tour of duty at the Pumpkin Patch, just plan to drive to your favorite store and pick up a package of full length crew socks on your way home. Simple enough and you really cannot understand the appreciation the homeless feel when they get a new pair of socks.

PS - when the weather changes and you look into your closet for a jacket or coat, and lo and behold, there's one you can no longer wear, please do not discard it. Either Sharing God's Love or Resurrections will find a new owner.

Thank-you note for the donation . . .

. . . by the Outreach Committee to the Venture Crew to help defray the losses they incurred as the result of vandalism while they were on a campout.  David Law can provide more detail.

"SSSJ Friends,

Thank you so much for your generous donation to the theft-recovery efforts for
Venture Crew 312.  Your thoughtful contribution is truly appreciated by our youth.
                        Katie Harrison"

Coloring Pages

[2nd post] We are so very proud of our children. If one of your children colors a page in our worship bags or creates a picture during Sunday school, please hang it using the ribbons in the large room in the Field Building.

$350 donation

"Please accept this donation to your snack pack program on behalf of the Operation Round Up program at Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative.  It is the intent of the Mid-Carolina Electric Trust Board to provide assistance to as many deserving individuals as possible.  We feel that in donating to the participating school in our area, Oak Pointe Elementary, we are touching many families in our community."

This is us

[apologies for co-opting the TV show name. I hope you're enjoying these trips down memory lane. I am.]

The editor hopes you've enjoyed excerpts from "Celebrating the Journey", the prospectus we shared during our search for new rectors—labeled "Seeking and Serving Christ in All Persons", in particular as we celebrate our patron saints, Simon & Jude, feast day October 28th. The last image I share with you is the group photo inquiring "Are you the one?" that we asked of our potential rectors. I share the image now to ask you "Are you the one?"—the one to join our journey, the one to participate in our programs, the one to worship together with us, the one to enhance our community—

Are you the one?

Polo Shirts

[last post] The polo shirts are in. They are in a box in the gathering room. The S,M,L and XL are $17.25. The XXL are $19.00. See Judy Gallagher if you have questions.

As you may have heard by now, our 3-day weekend is postponed. BUT . . .  that doesn't mean we can't have a good time. Let's have spooky, scary stories FROM THE BIBLE on Saturday, October 27, 2018. We'll begin around 3 pm and hear tales of the leviathan, the witch, and the dry bones (plus others)—in the pumpkin patch weather permitting. Afterward, let's have a fall feast of hot dogs (for us)! If you have a costume for Halloween, wear it. If not, come as you are!
