Alumni Currents—March 2018
View this email in your browser

Dear <<First Name>>,

I've enjoyed organizing and hosting alumni events in the different cities we’ve visited so far this year. It's fun to hear wonderful stories of connection, re-connection, and adventures that took place in different corners of our campus. WWU alumni are a very special bunch—supportive, caring, and loyal—and I am glad to be one of you!

In this issue you'll read about homecoming, alumni events, WWU's plans to celebrate Adventist archaeology's golden anniversary, alum notes, and more! Be sure to read clear to the end, you'll be glad you did.

Have you made your homecoming reservations? We have a special weekend planned for you, celebrating anniversaries, honor years, alumni of the year, and more! Visit our homecoming page for a sampling of the events, and to register. I look forward to seeing you at Homecoming Weekend 2018, April 26-29.

Alumni of the Year, 2018

It is my privilege to announce this year’s recipients of WWU Alumni Association’s Alumni of the Year Awards, pictured above. This is an honor given to those who have demonstrated a high commitment and service to their community, their church, and Walla Walla University, since graduation. Nominations were received beginning in November, and an Alumni Association committee selected the recipients, who will receive their awards at this year's Homecoming Banquet on Thursday, April 26, at 6 p.m.

Join me in congratulating our Alumni of the Year for 2018—you can greet them in person at homecoming, or watch for their stories in our summer issue of Westwind magazine.

Adventist Archeology—Celebration and Seminars

Did you know that Adventist archaeological work in Jordan (the Madaba Plains Project) is celebrating a 50th anniversary? Walla Walla University has been involved with this work in varying capacities for the last 30 years. We'll celebrate this golden anniversary at homecoming, where you can learn more about WWU's involvement and the Madaba Plains Project. You'll enjoy two Friday afternoon seminars, a Sabbath seminar, and an archaeological exhibit featuring finds from Tall al-ʿUmayri. Alumni presenters include: Doug Clark ’70, Kent Bramlett ’94, Jody Washburn ’05, and Monique Vincent ’07.  Visit the MPP page on our website for details and more information.

Reconnect at alumni events!

Why not reconnect and visit with alumni friends at a complimentary WWU Alumni Event? You never know who'll be there...

Pictured above, left, is a group of alumni friends who have followed each other across the US (CA, NJ, OR, WA) since grade school, finally ending up together in college at WWU. Now lifelong friends, thanks to their time at WWU, Krista Dalrymple '90 and Bonnie Brunt '91 learned of our Spokane, Wash., alumni event and decided this was the time to reconnect. At the event, they were thrilled to also visit with Kelly and Ray Koberstine '90!

Pictured above, right, Ben Kubo '10 and Brad Milne '14 (who was Ben's best man), both currently live in Southern California. Time and distance has kept them apart over the years, but they were glad to be able to reconnect at our Friday evening vespers in Loma Linda, Calif., in February.

Alum Note

Rebekah Shephard walked across the stage on Centennial Green in June 2014, then promptly began full-time employment with Maranatha, where she had been working part-time as she completed her degree. Recently she was promoted to International Volunteer Manager, which means she'll lead two trips a year, and will interact with volunteers as she oversees all of Maranatha’s international projects that are open to the public. Rebekah continues to look for ways to use her WWU business degree, and extends a warm invitation for you to join her on a future project with Maranatha!
