Both paddlers must be current on dues to receive MCRA points and prize money.

Renewal dues mailed after April 1 will be assessed a $15 late fee.

The Klondike
April 1-2, 2023
Oscoda, MI

The 2023 MCRA season will kick off in April with the return of the Klondike Challenge in Oscoda on April 2nd and 3rd. This is a fundraiser for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon.

Canoe / Kayak Challenge - Saturday, April 1
Location: Huntington Bank (4452 County Highway F-41, Oscoda, MI 48750)
Entry Fee: $10 per paddler
Registration Times: 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Huntington Bank

Event Course: The course is approximately 4.25 miles (2.75 miles upstream, 1.5 miles downstream).  The canoe / kayak challenge will start at the mouth of Van Etten Creek (where it meets the AuSable River), heading upstream to Van Etten Dam, then performing a counter-clockwise buoy-turn, and then heading back downstream to finish just past the F-41 bridge near Huntington Bank. Race course is approximately 45 minutes in length.

Other info: Lunch & the MCRA Membership Meeting at Huntington Bank after the race.  Lunch is not included in the entry fee.  Non-racing canoes and non-racing kayaks are allowed.  You must provide your own cold-weather gear and safety equipment, such as life jackets/PFD’s.  Please take cold-weather and cold-water precautions.

Run / Walk Challenge - Sunday, April 2
Location: Across from the Van Etten Lake State Forest Campground (Intersection of Perimeter Rd & Pride Rd)
Entry Fee: $10 per person
Registration: 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM
Event Start: 5K & 10K events start at 1:00 p.m.
Event Course: Looped course along Perimeter Rd. 10K runners will do two laps.
Other Info: Awards certificates will be available in the days immediately following the completion of both the 5K and 10K events.
This is a fundraising event for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. Feel free to bring a dog to run/walk along side you! If you do so, we politely ask that the dog be on a leash.

April 22nd - C2 Race
8:00 AM Registration Opens
10:00 AM Race Start
12:00 PM Award Ceremony at AuSable River Center

April 23rd - C1 Race
9:00 AM Registration Opens
11:00 AM Race Start

Heats will be determined by preregistered entries, with day-of registrations being placed in the last heat.

C2 race starts with one paddler running over the hill and across the street. Paddlers will continue downstream to Deerheart Valley Rd, perform a clockwise buoy turn, and paddle back upstream to Wallace Park.

C1 race start is chase-race style, with paddlers starting every 5 seconds. Paddle down to Steckert Bridge and perform a clockwise buoy turn, then paddle back upstream to Wallace Park.
