Montessori Moment

Kimberly, a Montessori Mom had this to say:

Maria Montessori has become a household name to so many, however years ago when I was a new mom and new to educating children I had no idea what Montessori meant. Gradually over the years I’ve read tons of parenting and teaching books, basically everything I could get my hands on. Even after years of being a mommy, having five children, and an educational background,  I’m still the same way now.I love new books. So whether you are new to the Montessori philosophy, or are like me and just looking for another great book to read here is a great list for you. CLICK HERE for Kimberly's article.

What do all these books have in common?  Don't know?  Find out this week in the library!

Cross Country

On Saturday, the 3rd-6th grade cross country team traveled to Kansas, Ohio and competed in the Lakota Invitational.  This wet, windy September day didn’t stop the Mustangs from running with determination to get to the finish line.  K-3rd girls and boys ran 1/2 mile and the 4th-6th girls and boys ran 1 mile.

In the K-3rd girls race, Natalie Nietz finished 8th overall out of 48 runners in a time of 3:50.  Natalie received a medal.  Brooke Wojciechowski was close behind and finished in 11th place in a time of 3:58.  In the K-3rd boys race, Zack Gross finished 10th overall out of 54 runners in a time of 3:25.  Zack received a medal.  Sam Challu finished in 17th place in a time of 3:44.

In the 4th-6th grade girls race, Libby Barnett finished 7th overall out of 40 runners in a time of 7:46.  Libby received a medal.  Finishing next for the Mustangs was Katie Oestreich.  Katie finished in 17th place in a time of 8:23.  Other runners included Maddie Cleland (8:53) and Kora Rollins (9:32).  In the 4th-6th grade boys race, Jackson Krueger finished 3rd overall out of 54 runners in a time of 6:52.  Jackson received a medal.  Finishing next for the Mustangs was Silas Nietz in a time of 8:38.

Middle School Running Club
It was the first race on this course and had a good break in with showers, down pours, and even some confusion when it started lightening during the race.  The kids are really coming together as a team- and learning to be cross country tough!  They were already good friends but they take the notion of leave no one behind serious running back to help the other finish in the storm.  Finishing first for our team was Thomas Long, then JJ Poiry, and then Isaac Douglass.  Thomas and Isaac both ran their first race and proved they have what it takes!

Congratulations to all runners!
