Montessori Moment
From Larry and Christie Poiry; their daughter Jessie graduated MSBG last year from the sixth grade. Their son JJ is currently in Upper Elementary.

Jessie got a late start; she started at Montessori in the 5th grade.  We were looking for a new school because going to 5th grade in a middle school environment was not an option and our local public school was putting the 5th graders in middle school.  We made the appointment to visit Montessori and she loved it from the start.  One of the biggest things she liked was she got to call the teachers by their first name (Miss Deb, Miss Ruth, and Miss Mary).  She felt that a relationship formed there that allowed her to really begin to step out of her comfort zone and learn new things.  She felt respected as a human and it showed.  She got challenged in ways that sparked her desire to learn, and it showed.

When it came time to pick the next school we had great difficulty deciding on our options.  We agreed with Jessie that the other schools just were not Montessori.  However, since graduating she now goes to school online like her older brother.  She also attends Bowling Green Christian Academy for extra classes.  She also is excited to be participating in Teen Pact this year.  She is doing very well combining the structured classroom environment and the flexible self-guided online environment.

She loves playing her violin in BGCA's Jazz Band.  She also informs me she loves the arts (all kinds), reading, and speech.  She also loves caring for little children and would miss them if she did not get to come see them when we pick up her younger brother.

Jessie says, “Montessori taught me my CORE skills, you know- Community; Organization; and Research Essentials.”

Miss Susan: Patterns (Part 2)

Patterns are the building blocks of the music language.  There are four basic sets of patterns that I use in all of this year’s classes.  These four sets of patterns form most of the music in our lives; in fact, you might think of these as the keys that your child will use to unlock the code of traditional music notation.  We always start (fall semester) with a neutral syllable - “ba” or “bahm.”  Once the children are able to echo the rhythms in the context of the steady beat, or echo the tonal patterns in tunethey will learn special language for these patterns.    These are the very first steps in learning to read and understand written music. Simply stated, if children follow the sequence of music learning that we are beginning with in Music Keys, they will be able to read music with comprehension upon completion of the sequence.  But be aware – for a person to truly be musically literate takes years – just as with any worthwhile skill, it is not developed over night!

Gala-Thank you!

Board Nominations
We are currently seeking recommendations for potential new members of our MSBG Board of Directors. Parents and friends of MSBG are very helpful in reaching out to potential volunteers so we are seeking your recommendations. Generally we are looking for individuals who are involved in the community or who have experience with nonprofits. We are especially looking for someone with fundraising and development expertise. Mostly we want individuals who will be passionate about MSBG! Please let us know of any individuals in the Bowling Green area who you would recommend. They do not have to be directly connected to MSBG. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Click HERE for the printable form. Click HERE for the online submission form.
