Weekly pertinent information about our calendar and events for our valued MSBG families and supporters. Text here will show in the preview area of some email clients.
Montessori Moment
The Montessori School of BG received a grant from the BG Community Foundation to further scientific exploration on our grounds.

Very shortly, garden construction will begin. The garden will be based on the principles of sustainable agriculture and the Aldo Leopold Education practices. It will be constructed using the square-foot gardening model by Mel Bartholomew.

A group from BGSU is helping us to develop a scavenger hunt on the MSBG grounds/trail. Groups will use GPS systems to navigate through the 14 acres, having minilessons at each scavenger hunt location.

Don Schooner, from Schooner Farms, has been essential at every step of this project. He will be lending his expertise (and equipment) to help us build a greenhouse for seed starting and plant development.

Do you want to help?
On April 13 (weather permitting) from 9:30-11am, we are having a Grounds Clean Up Day. We will be working on garden construction, soil mixing and general clean up of the grounds. Please bring whatever tools you have available: wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels, gloves, etc.  All adults and children are welcome!

Earth Day
This is our fourth annual BG Community Earth Day event this year. A huge variety of fun activities will take place at MSBG at 4pm on April 18. Please mark your calendars and invite your friends. Click HERE for the flyer.

Track and Field!

It’s time for Track and Field again and this will be our 4th season.
The Mustang Track & field team is open to 1st – 6th grade students.
Track & field includes a range of different events for children to participate in and try to achieve their best as well as being encouraged by others. A child can get several benefits from taking part in track and field events, the most prominent being the effects of moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA) that includes strength training, anaerobic and aerobic exercise. The intention of each session will be to practice and improve on the following:
Track events include:
50m, 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m as well as the 4 x 100m relay.
Field events include:
shot put; discus; javelin (foam); high jump (scissors) and long jump.

The PTO Spring Fundraiser

The PTO Spring Fundraiser forms are due after Spring Break! The packets were sent home with your child this past Wednesday. Please take a moment to look over the items and share with your friends and family; items will be delivered in time for Mother’s Day. PTO will earn between 20% and 50% of all sales! As we’ve stated, all profits for this fundraiser will be used for the outdoor hard-surface play area, a benefit for ALL students, so we need your help to make this a success! All orders are due into the front office no later than WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10TH.

Last August the PTO held a very successful used-clothing sale. We plan to hold our second annual Community Closet at the end of this summer. Any day now the weather is going to get warm and lovely(!), and we'll start cleaning out our closets to make way for spring duds. When that happens, PTO asks that you set aside some fall/winter clothing to donate to Community Closet. Contact Chelsea Cloeter with any questions: cdcloeter@me.com. Thanks!

Summer Fun Planning

Spring has just arrived, but we're already starting to think about summer plans for MSBG!  We'd like to invite parents to help us plan some summer activities for our students to help us stay connected.  If you are interested in talking about summer activities, please let Meg Vostal (meg@montessorischoolbg.org) know, and we'll arrange a planning meeting in April.

Grandparents/Special Adults' Week

We had over 75 visitors this week! We hope you had a great time working with your grandchild!

It's Enrollment Season!

Enrollment is filling very quickly for fall.

All we need to enroll your child for 2013-14 school year is the completed enrollment form and the deposit. Please remember that your deposit is applied toward your tuition and is not a separate fee.  The deposit guarantees your child(ren)'s spot on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tell your friends about MSBG!  Invite them to call (419) 352-4203 to schedule a no-pressure, personal tour.

Are you ready to apply for a scholarship?
  • To apply for scholarship/financial aid:   https://www.factstuitionaid.com. It takes about an hour and it determines your eligibility for MSBG scholarships available.

**To apply for the Northwest Ohio Scholarship, you need to complete their application form.  This form is available in your enrollment packet and online at: http://www.nosf.org/.

Miss Susan: Working with Scarves

During the semester, I will sometimes use scarves in addition to the regular classroom instruments.  Scarves are most often used to promote fluid, sustained movements, as in Wiggley Woo (a new song this week) or to teach directionality.  Being able to use the body expressively and gracefully is so important, not only to be able to play sustained, expressive music, but also in being agile on the athletic field.  Ask your child about their experiences with scarves in music class!

Kroger News

Starting April 1, 2013, all Kroger Plus cards must be reenrolled to continue to receive benefits paid to MSBG.  Reenrollment must happen before April 30th in order to avoid any interruption in the rebates paid.  This is for ALL Kroger Plus cards, even if you just enrolled your card for this year.  It is very simple to reenroll – just login to your Kroger Plus account
www.kroger.com and click Community),
and make sure that MSBG is selected as your non-profit of choice.  If you have any problems with re-enrollment, please contact Alisa Suelzer at
Unfortunately, changes in reporting from the Kroger corporate offices have caused difficulty with giving the rebates back to individual families.  Stating privacy concerns, Kroger did not provide individual card detail in for the last rebate paid in February.  Because we already had most cards registered in the fall, we decided to use the prior quarter activity to allocate the benefit to the families.  We will plan to do this for the final quarterly payment to be made in May for this enrollment year.   However, after that, we currently have no way of assigning the rebate to individual accounts.  Kroger has assured us that they will look to see what they can do for schools that are in this situation.
In the meantime, we plan to give the rebate received  previously by the families to the MSBG PTO.  As members of the PTO, all parents will then have a say in how that money is put to use for the benefit of all of our children.  25% currently goes to the scholarship fund and that will continue as well. While not ideal, we are happy that our school can still benefit from the program and we urge all of you to still continue to participate and have your friends and family do the same.  This is a very easy fundraiser for our school as it takes very little time and no money on your part.  So please continue to support this program – the more cards enrolled, the more money that is paid out of Kroger’s charitable fund.   If at any time, Kroger is able to begin giving individual card detail again, we will then resume crediting individual tuition accounts.  Thank you for your support of our school!

Happy Thoughts

Everyone to have a happy and healthy Spring Break!

Do you have a happy thought? Please share it with us today.

Things to keep in mind...Another benefit of being part of the MSBG school community is the option to rent our facility. MSBG has a rental agreement policy and has beautiful rooms and kitchens available for your event. Stop in the office for more information. (419) 352-4203

Annual Fund
100 % of our Board of Directors as well as our MSBG Faculty/Staff contribute financially to the school's annual campaign fund. MSBG is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity. You can donate to the school and your contribution is fully deductible to the extent of the law.
Save on Taxes
Please remember that "daycare" is a deductible expense. Since Bowling Green City Schools only offers ½ day (2.5 hrs) kindergarten, full day students at MSBG (6.5 hrs) can count 4.0 hrs as daycare (meaning 61.53% of their tuition is tax deductable); half day students can count 100% of their tuition as daycare as long as they attend a BG school the other ½ day. All extended care (any age) and all preschool tuition is also tax deductable. Please email Leigh Ann McKinney, our Business Manager, if you need a childcare credit expense report. She will need a two-week turnaround.
Board Nominations
We are currently seeking recommendations for potential new members of our MSBG Board of Directors. Parents and friends of MSBG are very helpful in reaching out to potential volunteers so we are seeking your recommendations. Generally we are looking for individuals who are involved in the community or who have experience with nonprofits. We are especially looking for someone with fundraising and development expertise. Mostly we want individuals who will be passionate about MSBG! Please let us know of any individuals in the Bowling Green area who you would recommend. They do not have to be directly connected to MSBG. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Click HERE for the printable form. Click HERE for the online submission form.
Vending Machine
Did you know? A portion of the proceeds from the 7up vending machine located by the head of the Slippery Elm Trail benefits MSBG!

Foyer Coffee
Join us for coffee everyday in the foyer and muffins on Friday; a service-learning opportunity provided by our Upper Elementary students!
