School Delays and Cancellations
With winter weather upon us, we want to update you on the process of school delays and cancellations.
We rarely close or delay and we do not follow the local or city school district(s) in regard to this decision. If your public school district delays or cancels, their transportation is delayed or cancelled - less than 1% of our school population uses their public school’s transportation. We take the safety of our staff and families into consideration when making these decisions. We are aware of the inconvenience closings can produce for families and do try to be sensitive to this fact. A two hour delay would cancel before school care and AM early childhood classes; a cancellation of school would mean all programming is cancelled. Due to preparedness that families need to make in the event of a delay or cancellation, the decision to delay is made by 6am and close by 8am. It is posted on the local network TV channels (WTOL 11, WNWO 24, ABC 13), all Clear Channel radio stations (The River, Kiss FM, etc.), and on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Additionally, an email is sent to all school families and employees to the email address that is on file in the office. This policy can also be found in your Parent Handbook. We would encourage you to sign up for weather and closing alerts from the local TV stations that will automatically text you whenever there are delays or closings. For example, you can go to http://www.toledonewsnow.com/category/270750/preference-center, input your cell phone number and select our school and this will register you for text alerts.
Parents retain the final legal responsibility for their children’s safe transportation to and from school. There will be no penalty for students unable to attend school due to inclement weather.
