Montessori Moment
Continent Studies for 6-12 year olds
Designed for elementary classes, the new biome materials Miss Liz demonstrated at the PTO meeting cover all the biomes found on a particular continent and the materials offer structure for independent research. Each biome is explored with an example of each of the five classes of vertebrates, an invertebrate, and a plant. Each biome also has a card set for a group of people and how they meet their basic needs within their biome. While indigenous cultures are emphasized as models of sustainability, rural and urban cultures are depicted as well for a realistic view of people on the continent.

German Class

The German classes are starting this week thanks to the BGSU Language Services Group. This after-school program will be led by BGSU graduate student and German expert, Miss Amanda.  The classes will be taking place in Room 201 from 3:15-4pm.

Board Nominations

We are currently seeking recommendations for potential new members of our MSBG Board of Directors. Parents and friends of MSBG are very helpful in reaching out to potential volunteers so we are seeking your recommendations. Generally we are looking for individuals who are involved in the community or who have experience with nonprofits. We are especially looking for someone with fundraising and development expertise. Mostly we want individuals who will be passionate about MSBG! Please let us know of any individuals in the Bowling Green area who you would recommend. They do not have to be directly connected to MSBG. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Click HERE for the printable form. Click HERE for the online submission form.

PTO Survey

PTO needs your input on the Spring Fundraiser!

We have a lot of great options for the Spring Fundraiser this year! Some are local businesses and new catalog options, while others will provide us with the great products from previous fundraisers. We need your vote as to what YOU would like to sell, buy or provide as a gift. Don’t forget, the items received in the Spring Fundraiser will be delivered in time for Mother’s Day! You may vote for your top THREE choices. The profit is noted in parentheses.

*If you have any questions about any of these businesses, or their products, please contact Kate Balusik.*

Miss Susan's Music Update

Each music class starts with a song that acknowledges the beginning of our class.  Singing hello to every child is a wonderful way to affirm his/her presence as an individual and as a member of the group.  We take turns greeting each child, but we often alternate accompanying movements as we sing hello and goodbye.  Clapping, waving, pointing, and tapping are just some examples.  As you probably know, the early-childhood age is the time of physical exploration and development.  These are just a few examples of the many accompanying motions that are popular among young children.  By singing “Sing Hello, Sing Hello, Dear Children” all the while tapping on our knees, we are all reinforcing your child’s verbal understanding, pairing the appropriate label, which may be new to some children, with the already familiar movement.  This is also giving your child the opportunity to direct the actions of the entire class through the use of language…what a powerful message this simple activity provides!

3rd-6th Grade Dance

On Saturday, February 1, from 6:00pm-7:30pm our 3rd-6th grade students are invited to a dance in the Oberheu Room.  Parents should drop off their child at 6:00pm and pick them up by 7:30pm.  Normal school attire is appropriate.
This is an up-tempo dance DJ'ed by Doug Michaelis.  Doug has been a DJ for many years and is involved with 4-H.  Miss Antonia will be working with the students on some dance moves during P.E.
We are in need of  volunteers to drop off snacks and drinks.  If you are interested, please contact Miss Megan in room 301 or via e-mail megan@montessorischoolbg.org
Thank you,
Megan and Antonia

Save on Taxes

Please remember that "daycare" is a deductible expense. Since Bowling Green City Schools only offers ½ day (2.5 hrs) kindergarten, full day students at MSBG (6.5 hrs) can count 4.0 hrs as daycare (meaning 61.53% of their tuition is tax deductable); half day students can count 100% of their tuition as daycare as long as they attend a BG school the other ½ day. All extended care (any age) and all preschool tuition is also tax deductable. Please email Leigh Ann McKinney, our Business Manager, at leighann@montessorischoolbg.org if you need a childcare credit expense report. She will need a two-week turnaround.
