We here at VTDigger know that fundraising campaigns are annoying.
That's why we limit the number of times we ask readers for help to twice a year.
We also try to set fundraising targets that are reasonable. We can do that because we are conservative about how we spend our money. VTDigger does not own a building, radio transmitters or a printing press. Because we are a nonprofit, we don't need to dole out profits to owners and shareholders.
Our budget this year is $1.1 million. That money supports our 14-member staff, the website costs, tech developments, public records requests and basic equipment we need to do our work -- cameras, computers and cellphones.
Those of you who have visited our offices at our open houses know we are a low-budget operation.
Every time we get more money, we plow it into news. That's because readers want more information, more in-depth daily reporting, more investigations that help explain what is going on in the state we care about.
We care very much about you, our readers. And we hope you care enough about us to help keep VTDigger strong.
