1356 Clyde Ave Development Update

The City View Community Association (CVCA) Executive is supporting other local community associations in their opposition to the rezoning of the property at 1356 Clyde Avenue at Baseline Road, where the Burger King now stands.  It is proposed to replace this retail strip with 2 high-rise buildings of 18 and 28 stories, with 468 units. We have written to the City, signed the petition and registered to speak at the upcoming planning committee meeting on August 26, 2021. Should you wish to comment on this application, the information and supporting documents for this proposal can be found on the City of Ottawa website:

What's the Rumbling?

The explosives and blasting at the 1357 Baseline Development, directly across the street at the Laurentian Plaza site, can be heard and felt in City View. We have reached and have been told that this is to continue for three months, up to 6x a day and there will be more jack-hammering and blasting.

Bassano Pollinator Garden

For those who don’t know or haven’t been down to Bassano Park between Rossland and Withrow go take a peek.

Volunteers have been in full swing for the last few weeks planning, tilling, moving earth, planting and watering. If anyone is wanting to help out there is a need for watering the plants (water is in a big blue barrel) and soil needs to be moved over around the plants.

The first three fence sections, nearest the bench, are already completely earthed. We are also looking for a carpenter who can build a door that we can lock and install a window in our little garden shed.

The gardens are coming alive and people are starting to make this a destination on walks through our community. It is like a breath of fresh air for the neighbourhood!

A great big thank you to everyone who has helped out so far to realize this project. See more pictures on our website.

75 Granton Re-Zoning Update

Thank you to everyone who attended the community consultation on July 14. Roughly 100 participants took part in the meeting and although informative, the developer's and City response were not encouraging but it is not over yet. Over 650 people have signed the petition!

The next step in the process is the Planning Committee Meeting, tentatively set for Sept. 9, 2021. A meeting notice will be sent by the City a week prior to this meeting. In this notice, information will be provided for community members to register to present (5 minutes) at the planning committee or to send in a written submission one week prior. We highly encourage you to begin preparing your statements now. It was stated in the public consultation that we have to show how this development goes against the City’s Official Plan and/or the Provincial Policy Statement. Both of these documents, as well as, a more detailed update can be found on our website here.

Community Fun Day, Sept. 19

Committee of Adjustments Update: August

The Committee of Adjustments continues to grant variances for severances and new-builds in City View. In April, May, June and July there were 8 hearings (98 Cotes des Neiges, 78/80 Rossland, 85 Chippewa, 35 Cordova, 77/79 Cotes des Neiges, 105/107 Granton, 44/46 Cotes des Neiges, 22 Rossland)

An application for 29 A&B David (adjourned from July 7 and August 4) will be heard September 15. This existing lot has only a 26.45m (86.78ft) frontage with proposed lot frontages of 12.59m (41.31ft) and 13.86m (45.47ft) feet once severed.  These lots would be much smaller than any other infills and the frontages are way below what the existing by-law allows at 19.5m for each lot. The lot areas will be 416m2 and 418m2 again much lower than the required 600m2. These are the main reasons that we oppose this application.

In the past number of years, infill in City View has always been limited to division of lots that have between 99 and 100 foot frontages. Our records show that all previous City View infills that have been approved by the Committee of Adjustments (70 applications for 130 infill houses) are on much larger properties in comparison to this proposal. If anyone would like to speak on this matter, send in comments or listen in on the meeting please contact

Slow Down Signs Available

With the school year approaching, we've received more Slow Down for Us yard signs from the city and would like to distribute them on key corners of the neighbourhood or any main roads with high visibility. If you would like one of these signs, please email us at
