Hello <<First Name>>

Earlier today I was proud to address the National Federation of Women’s Institutes’ (NFWI) Annual Meeting in Bournemouth on the importance of local buses. The delegates voted to support a resolution calling for the Government and local authorities to address the decline in local bus services.

We are delighted that the WI, with its history of powerful and effective campaigning, has decided to focus on buses. This campaign will see WI members raising awareness of the importance of local buses, particularly in rural areas, and promoting them as a sustainable form of transport. We look forward to campaigning together for good bus services for every community.

MPs back our call for a National Investment Strategy

The Transport Select Committee has published the outcome of its inquiry into bus services in England outside London last week. This is the inquiry we gave evidence to last November when we shared with MPs your experiences of losing a local bus service.

The Committee took on board our concerns and its report recognises that the decline of local bus services needs to be urgently tackled. The report makes some very sensible recommendations, including that the Government should establish a National Bus Investment Strategy by the end of 2020 - something we’ve long campaigned for. This would mean that our most used form of public transport would finally have a dedicated, properly funded national strategy that places buses at the heart of our transport system.

Read more about the report in our blog.

The Time Is Now

On 26 June, thousands of people will come together to send a message to politicians - it's time to end the UK's contribution to climate change and pass ambitious laws that create a healthier environment for nature and people. The Time Is Now rally will snake round Westminster, organised town by town, village by village, before meeting MPs one by one to tell them that we want action!

When it comes to carbon emissions, transport is the worst offender. We need to improve public transport, walking and cycling and cut traffic on our roads to avert climate disaster. Why not come along on 26 June with a placard showing the connection between your local campaign and the health of the climate? Think globally, act locally!

Find out more at the Time is Now website.
