Keeping Your Home Safe

Weekly Spring Cleaning Tip #4

Hey friend,

Keeping you and your family safe is our #1 priority

On April 5th, during a White House COVID-19 Response Team briefing, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, MD, said the CDC updated its guidance on cleaning and disinfecting to prevent the spread of COVID:

"People can be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 through contact with contaminated surfaces and objects. However, evidence has demonstrated that the risk by this route of transmission is actually low," said Walensky.

The only time that disinfection is advisable, according to the new CDC guidance, is "in indoor settings, schools, and homes where there has been a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, within the last 24 hours"

You only need to disinfect surfaces if someone with COVID has been to your home in the last 24 hours

Here are some tips from the CDC to help reduce surface contaminations:

  • Ask unvaccinated visitors to wear masks.

  • Have everyone in your household wash hands often, especially when returning from outside activities.

  • Follow guidance for fully vaccinated people before inviting visitors to your home.

  • Disinfect electronics often, especially those that transfer person to person often i.e cellular phones, computers, remotes

(Consider putting a wipeable cover on electronics for example, phones, tablets, touchscreens, keyboards, and remote controls to make cleaning easier.)
