Here at the end of our first furlough in Manila, Philippines, we are grateful to the Lord for fulfilling His promise to use us as career missionaries.
He called us to step out in faith and He was faithful to supply our needs through you our giving and praying supporters.
Here are a couple of things we are grateful to the Lord for as we serve as ABWE missionaries in several venues as Equip Manila...
Faith Academy: Supporting Many Missionaries' in their Ministries
Kim's investment among the students of Faith Academy provides great dividends in families serving all over the Philippines. Her teaching of MKs (Missionary Kids) helps the families stay on the mission field and serve.
Kim's influence as a HS mathematics teacher, and in discipleship groups, helps these students in their walk of faith in Christ and their education before college. It is an essential missions work in support of many crucial ministries in Philippines and Asia!
- Spotlight on Mikayla Hagen, New Tribes Mission:
Drama Friends: Mikayla Hagen with Kelly
One of Kim's students is Mikayla Hagen. Mikayla is one of Kim's Algebra students and loves to be in FA sports and school plays as does Kelly.
Mikayla's family has served in the Philippines through 3 generations. Her parents, Steve and Jen, have served with New Tribes Ministries as church planters and trainers of tribal Filipinos to do church planting and pastoral/preaching ministry.
As Kim inquired of the Hagens to see if we could highlight their work and Mikayla as Kim's student, they shared the following with us:
"We really have felt so privileged to have a front row seat to watch what God is doing with tribals in the Philippines, and we love it when we have an opportunity to share HIS story with others so that they can glorify Him and be encouraged by what He is doing. Yes, you are more than welcome to share absolutely anything about what God is doing with tribals in the Philippines. As you teach our kids, you are very much a part of this... Thanks again for loving on our kids and serving the way that you do!"
The Hagen's work has been among tribes both south of Manila and now north of Manila.. Some of those they have led to faith in Christ are now serving as pastors, evangelists and church planters. Some in their ministry were once part of head-hunter tribes!
For the Hagens to continue this vital work among indigenous tribes they need Faith Academy and their dedicated missionary teachers for the education of their children. It's been a joy for Kim to work with Mikayla and many other students knowing that what she does in ministry with them keeps ministries in the provinces going!

Please continue to pray for Mikayla, as well as the Hagens in their tribal training and church planting work
Training Future Preachers of God's Word at BBS&I
The Lord has graciously allowed me to serve in a seminary for the past 3+ years in Manila. I am so grateful for this work. It has been a huge answer to prayer and a dream come true.
I will be doing this ministry right up to the point of our furlough in June by teaching a modular-intensive course in Biblical Hermeneutics. This will be from June 6th to 10th.
Students will receive lectures all week and then take a test on Friday. After that, even though I will be in CA, they will send me their many papers via email by the end of the semester.
Graduates of BBS&I in March 2016
Through the modular-intensive course I am able to help Dr. Collado and BBS&I staff as they now only have to find a replacement teacher for my other 5 courses for 2016-17 rather than all 6 of them. Pray for me as I scale down my lectures to the crucial and necessary information for the 5 days.
Vital Seminary-level Training Seminars in Baras
ln the last year I've worked hard to prepare Approved Workmen Training (AWT) seminars to branch out and extend seminary-level training to pastors in Baguio and Baras.
This is a vital work as pastors all over the Philippines are yearning for more training. I understand them completely. I finished my M.Div. in 1988 and left for the mission field of the Czech Republic in 1992.
But, while on the mission field I longed for more training. Finally, after a change in direction of ministry in 2008, the Lord provided a church-based seminary training at our home sending church, which met my need and longing.
I couldn't attend seminary again, but the Lord, through our pastors, brought the essential seminary training to where I was and met the need I had in terms of theological and practical ministry experience. This is what motivates me to press forward. I've taken this same model, though scaled back to a manageable seminar training event and used it in and around Manila.
Training pastors in exegetical method and expository sermon prep in Baras
We will finish the AWT in Baras on May 24th. We will give them certificates of completion and a 8GB flash drive full of articles, templates, samples and MP4 videos of Drs. Lawson, Mohler, MacArthur and Dever among others.
These will be on exegetical method and expositional sermon prep. In the future we hope to follow that up with more training seminars in Baras.
Working with Emil Rivera and perhaps others when we return in 2017, we will hold training events with other church denominations in Manila, near Manila and possibly in Bicol region. We also hope to expand AWT to the Visayas region, which was hit so hard by the super typhoon a few years ago.
Our Girls Graduation at Faith Academy - June 3rd, 2016
Rejoice with us as our girls graduate from HS at Faith Academy! Kelly and Kaitlyn have worked extremely hard here. Both are part of the NHS (National Honor Society for academic excellence). Both have been heavily involved in sports (like touch rugby, track & field, soccer and volleyball). Kelly has participated in chorus and school plays since we arrived in 2013! We are so proud of them both!

Will You Join Our Support Team for 2016
Furlough begins for us this coming June and goes 7-8 months until February 2017.
We would love to be able to gain new supporters and reach full support status again before our furlough even begins. In this way, we will be able to focus on arranging and preparing future teams to serve alongside us.
If we return by February 2017, then we should be able to renew our visas for another 2 years before the April 17, 2017 deadline, which is cheaper and easier than starting over.
Can you help us with a one-time gift donation?
Can you join our team as a new monthly supporter of perhaps $10, $25, or $50/month?
If so, then click on the appropriate above icons to go to ABWE's website and giving pages.
All donations are tax-deductible.
Thank you for your prayers and financial support.
NOTE: We are experiencing some recent problems with our email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please communicate with us at email@example.com for the time being.
