WRDA Health Programmes Available

Resources for the Breast, Cervical and Bowel Screening Awareness Programme.
WRDA is currently providing training programmes across Northern Ireland. The Breast, Cervical and Bowel Screening Awareness Training Programme takes place over three two-hour sessions and is available to individuals and organisations working with hard to reach groups. WRDA also has funding to run our Parents Promoting Sexual Health Programme in the Belfast and Northern Trust areas, and funding to run Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Programmes in the Northern Health Trust.

WRDA welcomes new Women's Sector Lobbyist

WRDA are delighted to welcome Ellen Finlay to the staff team as the Women’s Sector Lobbyist. Ellen joins us from the Children’s Sector where she was Policy Officer at Children in Northern Ireland, having previously worked as Policy and Research Coordinator at the Women’s Support Network. Ellen will be responsible for policy analysis, and developing, co-ordinating and implementing policy and lobbying strategies to ensure that women’s issues and views are effectively positioned and communicated to politicians and policy makers. Community Facilitator Training Programme 2015-16

WRDA’s 2015-16 Community Facilitator Programme will be delivered in both the Cookstown and Dungiven areas. The award winning programme is fully funded and provides an opportunity for women to complete a Level 3 Certificate in Training and Development, and gain both facilitation and leadership skills. The training is delivered by highly qualified and experienced staff, and will comprise of both contact and non-contact training hours, practical tasks and observations. It will be delivered on a part-time basis: one full day a week from October 2015 to March 2016. On completion, women will have the chance to register for employment opportunities delivering WRDA’s training programmes.

People and Communities Workshop

WRDA, as part of the Women’s Regional Consortium, will be holding an information session on the Big Lottery’s new funding programme, People & Communities. The event will take place on Wednesday 16th September from 11am-1pm in the WRDA Offices, 6 Mt Charles, Belfast.
Big Lottery staff will be present on the day to share information and gather your views on how the programme could support your work with local people and ultimately improve your community. This will be followed by a discussion covering: project ideas, strengths in your community, how you will involve local people, challenges faced, and support needed. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Nieve at info@wrda.net or 028 9023 0212 by Wednesday 2nd September. The event will include lunch, and the chance to network. Save the Date: WRDA AGM

WRDA will be holding their 2015 Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 28th October from 6-8pm in the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast. The theme of the evening will be Celebrating 20 Years of the Community Facilitator Programme. Guest speakers and further details will be announced in due course, so watch this space!

UN Women Guidebook on Women, Peace & Security

The Transitional Justice Institute's Visiting Scholars Aisling Swaine (GWU) and Catherine O'Rourke have authored the UN Women 'Guidebook on CEDAW general recommendation no. 30 and the UN Security Council resolutions on women, peace and security'. It is a landmark document giving authoritative guidance to countries that have ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on concrete measures to ensure women’s human rights are protected before, during and after conflict. OFMDFM Childcare Strategy Consultation Events

Junior Ministers Michelle McIlveen and Jennifer McCann launched the Executive’s draft Childcare Strategy for public consultation on the 28th July 2015.
The consultation period will run for 16 weeks and will close on Friday 13 November 2015. OFMDFM are holding a number of consultation events on the draft Strategy throughout NI and details of these events, including how to register your attendance can be found on the flyer. An electronic version of the consultation document and questionnaire are available at the OFMDFM Childcare Strategy website here.

Latest Consortium Consultation Response

The consultation most recently responded to by the consortium was the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety for Northern Ireland’s ‘Co-operating to safeguard children and young people in Northern Ireland: a draft document for consultation’. The response is available on the consortium website.

Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI)

Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) is an action group campaigning against the unfair changes to the State Pension Age imposed on women born in the 1950's. It was formed by five women who are being personally affected by the changes and wanted to address this injustice. Having signed Anne Keen’s petition “Reverse the State Pension Law” they established regular contact with each other in April this year, and sprang into action prior to the General Election - attending local election debates, taking part in radio interviews, writing and meeting their MPs, contacting newspapers, posting on Social Media and more.
